Today the Directors Guild of America announced its nominees for the the 63rd-annual DGA Awards, and The Walking Dead‘s writer, director, and executive producer, Frank Darabont, received a nomination for his direction of The Walking Dead pilot, “Days Gone Bye” — his third DGA nomination, though his first in the television category.

Darabont faces stiff competition for the prestigious award, namely Lost‘s Jack Bender, Boardwalk Empire‘s Martin Scorsese and Allen Coulter (for separate episodes), and Mad Men‘s Jennifer Getzinger.

The awards will be presented during a dinner on Sat., Jan. 29, at the grand ballroom of Hollywood & Highland, in Los Angeles.
