It's never entertained or amused me that a foreign actress, who does not understand institutionalized Patriarchal violence in America (both ouvert and couvert), constantly portrays American women who are victims. She doesn't understand these stories are false, not because the facts they are based on aren't true but because the bigger picture is not being told. In not telling that you are significantly telling a story that is a lie.
I've done my homework. Much like Oprah Winfrey has become the Evita Peron of Broadcast executives, Charlize Theron, whose plain features are loved by the camera, puts forth the story of the American woman in a manner that a patriarchal system wants them portrayed.
This said, if I had liked this type of feature film I could have been working in TV in my twenties.
The magic of film is in the creative artists who bring metaphor and great literary ideas to the masses using science, technology, applied arts, and of course the eye of the camera. My eye.
