The
lineup for the 2007 Woodstock Film Festival, which runs October 10 through 14,
was announced yesterday.
This year's "Honorary
Maverick Award" goes to Christine Vachon, the innovative and prolific producer
of more than fifty films over the past twenty-two years. That's too many to list here, of course, but
she shepherded Poison, Kids, I Shot Andy Warhol, Boys
Don’t Cry, Far From Heaven – she's
arguably the most important force in modern independent film.
Vachon is in fact a producer
of the festival's closing night selection, Todd Haynes' I’m Not There, which has six actors portraying one multifaceted
musician: Bob Dylan. Those screenings are
already sold out, but there are dozens of other intriguing films. Julian Schnabel's third, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, won the best director award
earlier this year at Cannes. Neal
Cassady, a biopic directed by Noel Buschel (Bringing
Rain) is a good way to extend your celebration of the fiftieth anniversary
of "On the Road." And The Living Wake stars Jesse Eisenberg of The Squid and the Whale and The
Hunting Party and was directed by Sol Tryon.
