Film Search

Can someone out there please help? I am trying to find out the name of a film, made in the USA in the 1970s. It starts with the radar testing of a Blackbird aircraft, which crashes following a lightning strike. The main part of the film is then taken up with the between life and death experience of the pilot, with many flashbacks of his life whilst he is being examined/interviewed and it is only at the end of the film that it is revealed that he in fact dead.
I have searched the name of this film for a long time by genre on Yahoo/Google etc and cannot find it.
