SciFi Rides

Kevin Maher's SciFi Department video last week about the cars of tomorrow got me thinking: if I could have any vehicle from any Science Fiction realm, what would it be?

The Trekkie in me instantly turns to the Enterprise-D of The Next Generation, but then I think of issues of practicality: I mean, where on earth would I park it? The flying and time-traveling DeLorean is tempting, though judging from the trilogy the thing pretty much breaks down every time you use it. I think I would have to pick the Millennium Falcon, which is an awesome looking ship, it's armed to the teeth and it somehow has the ability to turn space into time -- I assume making the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs has something to do with the warping effect of hyperspace? Then again, maybe George Lucas just didn't do his homework. Either way, I think it's the all around best choice in terms of aesthetics, versatility, speed, and of course armaments.

What SciFi ride would you guys most like to cruise in?

definitely the Eagle 5 Winnebago from Spaceballs, but only after a good dose of bleach

That thing always kinda grossed me out, too. Maybe it was just that opening scene with John Candy eating that dog food.

Interesting though, that you pick the spoof Falcon over the real one. I don't think I would make that choice. If I did though, I would take Lord Helmet's ship over Lone Starr's.

true -- always good to have that back-up vacuum cleaner function just in case...

What about the eagles from space 1999? had a nice model of one when younger

I just love the idea of Space: 1999 -- the fact that that's where we thought mankind would be technologically by the turn of the century. I wonder why we don't make such outlandish predictions any more...

Bad part of space: 1999 beside the whole moon getting ripped away and such, mankind has a fully functional base on the moon. A point to explore and head out deeper into space then ever before. But what is its main function, waste disposal. Polluting the moon with toxic nuclear waste.

I like the trailers from The Lost World: Jurrasic Park. Some thing cool is those things are supremely reinfored with advanced aircraft materials and only weigh 2 tons.

there is only one ship that I would ride in and thats Serenity.

Fell in love with her after I´ve seen one episode of Firefly, the most incredible tv series of all times.

YOU CAN`T STOP THE SIGNAL !

I think Serenity is visually stunning, and it's inner-atmospheric action is pretty cool. But man, sometimes I think you just want to go fast. And Serenity most certainly does not.

The Duke of New York's sweet chandelier express featured in Escape From New York

Mad Max's V-8 interceptor (Road Warrior Version)

Phantasm II's 71' Cuda Hardtop.

How about the Death Race ride Kevin? That sounds in line with your oeuvre...I would say out of those the Interceptor is the coolest. I definitely wouldn't mind having that thing.

Which do you think would win: The Interceptor or Knight Rider?

Blade Runner. Police Cars.
