SciFi Power Ranking - November 10, 2008
It's been a rough week in the world of science fiction with the passing of Michael Crichton -- an undeniable giant of the genre no matter whether you're a fan or not -- and news that icon Forrest J. Ackerman is ailing badly. One of the most influential people in scifi, Ackerman may not have made movies, but he certainly made a lot of people who made movies, if you get what I mean.
And those moving pictures? Well, you'd think TV would have totally dried up what with the nonstop political coverage over the last week, but, nope, the box comes on strong thanks to massive upheavals behind the scenes. And a new movie makes a splash via a trailer that leaked, got a whole lot of people all juiced up, got taken down... and has since been unleashed once more.

Doctor Who A British television series topping the list simply because we don't know what's going to happen in the aftermath of its star moving on? Yeah, I'm surprised, too, but the numbers don't lie and this is by far the most talked about story this week. |

Monsters vs. Aliens This would be the trailer leak, trailer gone, trailer back item mentioned above. And it's pretty much brilliant. When UFOs invade the USA, the military does the only sensible thing: They send giant monsters after the aliens. Watch your backs Pixar, Dreamworks is creeping up... |

Watchmen Yes, this is still the movie to beat in 2009 and the release of a new behind the scenes video has got fans all abuzz -- again -- about just how good Carla Gug ... er, Zak Snyder's Watchmen looks. |

Heroes Oh, this is getting ugly. Just as fans were starting to hope that Heroes was on the rebound, the powers that be canned a bunch of behind the scenes folk, including two of the showrunners. Has the death watch begun? |

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles This show's been running how long without making the Power Ranking before now? Well, credit good story telling... This series was on the death watch before its current surge got people talking. (And looking at Summer Glau never hurts.) |

Bender's Game If only all of Fox's series got the same post-cancellation treatment as Futurama. The latest DVD movie is out and you've got to love anything that references Orson Scott Card and D&D as much as this thing does. Now make a Tick movie, already! |
| 7 | 10 | ![]() |
Dollhouse Hey! Dollhouse news that doesn't revolve around behind the scenes conflict! A launch date -- February 13th -- and a new trailer have given Whedonites reason to hope. |
| 8 | - | ![]() |
Robot A Chinese giant robot movie? It's coming from director Jeff Lau, who has done films with Stephen Chow in the past. Some are labeling it a Chinese Transformers, which seems premature since all that's mentioned is that the robots are big, but anticipation is already high. |

Terminator: Salvation Hey! Terminator's two for two! Don't go messing with Cyberdyne! New footage and new talk keeps our feelings surprisingly positive. |
| 10 | - | ![]() |
Repo: The Genetic Opera Darren Bousman's little musical that could cracks the list once again thanks to a new music video hitting the Net, and the commencement of Bousman's Repo dog and pony show. A lot of people hate it, but a lot of others love it -- and nobody is indifferent. |

"If only all of Fox's series got the same post-cancellation treatment as Futurama."
I'd rather they let it have an honorable after-life rather than making this set of increasingly leaden movies.
