SciFi Power Ranking - July 28, 2008
It's been good-week / bad-week for The Dark Knight and star Christian Bale. While the movie is still laying an unholy beating on the box office, the celebration has been tempered somewhat by a good dose of family dysfunction. But enough of the tabloid talk -- the big buzz this week comes from the San Diego Comic Con, the largest geek event in the known universe. The wave of news coming out of the Con is overwhelming, but there were a handful of clear winners in the hype and excitement department...

The Dark Knight The only real question at this point is just how many box office records The Dark Knight will break before it finishes its run. People were expecting success, but I don't think anybody counted on anything quite this scale. |

![]() | Watchmen It's the most talked about film of the upcoming year and -- a refreshing sign -- the more people see, the more they seem to like it. Snyder's Watchmen clearly leads when it comes to Comic Con chatter. |

Dollhouse Ah, Mr. Whedon, you know how to keep your fans talking and evidently you know how to play the mainstream media, too. Dollhouse is dominating the entertainment pages here, but the online buzz is all about the reshot pilot |

Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog It wasn't quite a one-two punch for Whedon, but ain't nothin' horrible about having your new web show hold the two-three-four positions in iTunes downloads. Whedon's already talking more ... |

RoboCop The rumored return of RoboCop is a rumor no more and the confirmed Darren Aronofsky take on the character might be the most divisive piece of news to come out of the Con. |

Heroes Heroes' reputation was arguably made at the Con in the first place and screening the first episode of Season 3 there has just given the show a good kick in the pants. |

The X-Files: I Want To Believe The week's big scifi opening all the way down at number seven? That'll happen when you open to a wave of mediocre press and get smoked at the gate by a musical. Nobody expected you to top The Dark Knight, Mulder, but ABBA? Ow. |

Tr2n Tron is back and apparently, so is Jeff Bridges! Times have changed since the original and there's more than a passing chance that a Tron sequel will be horrible... but isn't it fun to hope? |

The Spirit I expected a whole lot more buzz to come from The Spirit's Comic-Con panel, what with a block of new footage showing, but the enthusiasm seems muted. Still love the look, but sign me up with the wait-and-see crowd. |

Caprica The first footage for Battlestar prequel Caprica has hit and, again, the enthusiasm levels are lower than you'd think. Curiosity? Sure. Excitement? Not so much. |
