First Look at the New Enterprise

star-trek-uss-enterprise-full.jpg

A picture is worth a thousand words. This image of the Enterprise from J.J. Abrams' Star Trek seems worth a bit more. "Not too shabby!" is not the sort of keen observation I am usually paid to make, yet what else is there to say. It's neat to see the NCC-1701 in dry dock construction. It looks like they haven't messed too much with the vessel's classic lines, but the shot is too zoomed-in to really tell whether or not we are looking at a radical re-envisioning or a faithful recreation. Still, clueless speculation is the heart of fandom, so join us in the comments and tell us what you think of the Enterprise's new look, where I will make such lucid observations as "Well said!" and "I think it looks cool."

Looks great BUT (you knew a Trek geek had a "but") hopefully this scene is a flashback as when Kirk came on board as captain there had already been 2 previous captains, Christopher Pike and Robert April prior to him. The only other option would be that this is the refit from the Pike period.
One of the big "no-no's" of Trek has been to re-write it's history which has already been established. Other producers and Paramount as well has seen the results of that (i.e. Enterprise).
So steady as she goes Captain Abrams. Don't rock the boat!
