Toodle-oo to Doctor Who?

David_tennant_doctor_who_tardisTo quote The Usual Suspects, "a rumor's not a rumor that doesn't die." But in the nosy, busy-body trade of media sleuthery, a rumor never dies, and especially not this one: The persistent gossip that the fourth season of Doctor Who will be David Tennant's last.

Sure, the rumor died down for a while, but the Doctor's newest companion, comedian Catherine Tate, injected it with revivification juice when she commented to BBC Radio 2 host Jonathan Ross last week that: "I think it's maybe David's last series."

No confirmation from the BBC yet, and maybe she's just parroting the rumors we've all heard, but with a year hiatus after the fourth season of Doctor Who to accommodate Tennant's tenure with the Royal Shakespeare Company, it makes just as much sense as it ever did. I hope it's not true, though, not just because I like Tennant, but because they really are grinding through the Doctor's thirteen regenerations at an alarming rate these days. Sure, when they come to number 13, they'll pull the deus out of the machina, but I'd rather put that off for another couple decades.

Yeah, but if you think about it, most of the doctors had only 3 full seasons (or less, in the case of Colin Baker). Only the 3rd and 4th had longer tenures. I believe it was Peter Davison who said Tom Baker told him not to go longer than three seasons in that role. David is just following suit. The problem is mainly Eccleston's very short stint.

I wonder who would be the next doctor, though.

If the David Tennant leaves the show. I think its noble and he could be making a very WISE choice. Honest, if I was him. I would not want to be known as the DOCTOR for the rest of my career, thank you very much. To be the same character over and over could be tedious and lose its charm in challenging for an talent actor as David.

I love him as the Doctor. I will be one of the many people or less to stand behind his back and say do what you think is best for your career.

He knows the show will move and be famous with him or not. Dr Who is a legend and it will continue to do so. Its the creators, writers and staff who do the behind the scenes who do the glory job. David is just stepping in the Doctor's shoes. He has the right challenge himself. You got to honor him for bring the Doctor back to life for another person. So thank him. Don't be mad.

Thank you!

I've loved David Tennant's stint as the Doctor; He has an innate (and eccentric) charm that will be greatly missed if and when he decides to hang up the Converse trainers and move on. Somehow, I can still envision a big-screen adaptation with Tennant in it... call it wishful thinking. :)

Of course, I also liked Chris Eccleston's turn as 'Who' quite well (and was disappointed that he only did one season).
