Finally...Galactica 1980 on DVD!

Galactica1980_complete

Pop Quiz, hot shot.

The original Battlestar Galactica was: (A) Television's attempt to capitalize on the Star Wars phenomenon. (B) A clever scheme by Lorne Greene to revitalize his career. (C) A warm-up for the spectacular Galactica 1980.

The answer, if the marketing machine at Universal is to be believed, is (C).  (Note: Do not believe any marketing machine.  It will be your undoing.  Your undoing, I say!)

For those who missed it and have been waiting for the short, sharp shock that only lousy crapfests can bring, TVShowsonDVD.com tells us that the long wait is finally over.  On December 26th, Universal Home Entertainment will release the complete Galactica 1980 series on DVD for just under 30 star bucks. All 10 episodes will be included.  Lucky you!  I stopped at one.

The kicker for this DVD set is the brilliant (see the aforementioned note on marketing weasels) tag line "The Original Battlestar Galactica's Final Season".  Come again?  The show was created by a fan write-in campaign after the original Battlestar Galactica was canceled into the ether.  Not the same thing, especially when you turn the show upside down and introduce a whole new level of suckage whose ripples would be felt through the sci-fi community for decades to come.

The premise of Galactica 1980 was that, a generation after the first series and long enough for Commander Adama to grow a beard, the fleet arrives at Earth, only to find its inhabitants ill-suited to defend themselves against the Cylons.  Oh, and there were flying motorcycles, Cousin Oliver from The Brady Bunch, and recycled footage from Earthquake.

Hmmm...Lorne Greene was in Earthquake.  Maybe the correct answer to the Pop Quiz is (B) after all.

I guess everything is worth trying to make a buck. So, I guess that means once the Ron Moore Galactica is done, we can expect to see one 'more' series called GALACTICA 2010! It'll sport a chubby, worn Kara Thrace and an even chubbier and older Lee Adama working out in a Hollywood health spa after Admiral Adama, now sporting a fake beard, can contemplate life with the illegitimate love child of Colonel Sol Tigh. Oh brother. But common, didn't everyone wanna see if Boxey was going to keep the bowl cut when he was 35?

Yes... As a young lad I was a huge Battlestar Galactica fan. I watched the show every week, until they decided on a day of the week to air the episodes. My life was a cruel and painful series of excuses to my friends as to why I would desert them around 8:00 PM on fridays and saturdays hoping for the new episode of Battlestar Galactica.

They finally settled on Saturdays at 8:00 PM (my adolecencce was over) while all the other "normal" teen boys in the neighborhood were honning their make out skills, I was watching the thrilling adventures of Starbuck and Apollo and the Battlestar Galactica.

Don't get me wrong... Galactica saved my life! While those other homonally challenged guys from my childhood were out catching the latest STD I was safe at home watching the disasterious Galagtica 1980.

I had hoped that it would get better, but... I have never sat through such horibble telivision in my life! BUt you know what? I will purchase m a copy of Galactica 1980 just to remind me of the teen years that I avoided with; Rhonda, Carol, Lisa, Mika, Jojo, and a whole bunch of chicks that I still contact from time to time, who have the distinction of having children only 14 or 16 years Younger than they are ...

Thank you Battlestar Galactica for saving me from fatherhood at 14! and for helping me to forge ahead to better, Much better Science Fiction Telivision.

AS a true fan of Sci-Fi I do still love watching the Crappy stuff from Years gone by. The latest laugh... Buck Rodgers In the 25th Century! OH God! I watched this Crap??? I spent my youth watching this lost Swill??? My only saving grace is that I watched Re-runs of the original Star Trek during the week days!

I'm doing fine folks! I love my life and I have loads of female friends, who I have "Safe" sex with!

Live long and prosper, and nail chicks Who dig Sci- Fi geeks! YEAH!

It could have gone worse... I could be typing this from my parents basement!!!
