10. Sheriff Ed Tom Bell in No Country for Old Men (2007)

Yet another Texan sheriff role for Jones, this time he very slowly starts investigating the Coen brothers’ tangled mystery involving an on-the-run Josh Brolin, an unstoppable killer, and two million dollars in cash. Though Jones will most likely portray other lawmen in his career, his dialogue, lamenting the law’s loss of control, is a nice punctuation point on a career full of sheriffs, marshals, and stoic army men.
