The sequel shifted the focus from scientific experimentation to genetic legacy. As such, it proves a thematic bridge to Cronenberg's grisly 1986 update. Plus, it gave monster movie junkies what they craved: More mayhem, more transformations, more Vincent Price, and more trippy head pieces.
