The Hunt for Red October (1990)

He closed out the decade as a Lithuanian Soviet submarine captain who speaks, of course, with a Scottish accent. Jack Ryan might be the protagonist in the Tom Clancy novel, but it's Ramius (Connery, a last minute replacement for the role) who steals the show. This film is a now as much of a classic as Connery is himself.
