Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

The danger and opportunity of the Wild West found a second coming in the '60s; screenwriters revived the genre with "spaghetti" Westerns. But with well-tread conventions dominating the movies, screenwriter William Goldman developed his own wry take. Loosely based on the true story of a turn-of-the-century bank robbing team, Redford partnered with Paul Newman to reanimate a classic gun-toting duo. The movie honored and lampooned the Western genre, and launched then-up-and-comer Redford into superstardom.
