Sonny (Al Pacino), Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
A sad sack trapped in a dead-end job and an unhappy marriage, Sonny (Al Pacino) is desperate to get his on-the-side boyfriend a sex change. He figures that crime is the only way to pay for it. Trouble is, not only isn't he a brain surgeon, he's not much of a bank robber, either. Since the cash has been picked up for the day, there's little to steal. But before he can walk out empty-handed, the cops have arrived. Frantic to make it out alive, he holds everyone hostage, hoping to trade their safety for a future that doesn't involve prison or the firing squad.
