Bull Durham

The Role: Crash Davis, catcher for the Durham Bulls.

The Story: A veteran catcher is assigned to mentor a wild rookie pitcher on a minor-league team. Their chemistry is thrown a curve when both become enamored of the team groupie (Susan Sarandon), who chooses one player to sleep with each season.

The Subtext: Long bus rides and crummy motels aren't exactly the stuff of fantasy. Still, millions of guys with well-paying, boring desk jobs would gladly trade it all for some jock camaraderie and a shot at Susan Sarandon's heart.
