Why She's Special in It: Mike Nichol's stage-to-screen adaptation of this adult drama could only be successful with the right cast -- a group of actors willing to wade through the dark, sexual waters of the script. In Jude Law, Clive Owen, Natalie Portman, and Julia Roberts, Nichols found his troupe. Roberts is the biggest revelation, delivering a nuanced and powerful performance of a character who, on the surface, is cool and intellectual, but, deep inside, is as driven by desire as anyone else.
