10. Doctor Zhivago (1965)
The last of David Lean's signature war movies is arguably the swan song of the epic's heyday. An adaptation of the Boris Pasternak novel, Doctor Zhivago places its central love story (featuring Julie Christie and Omar Sharif) against the Bolshevik Revolution -- hardly a typically romantic setting.
