9. Sixteen Candles (1984)
Another teen-take, this one from John Hughes. It's her birthday, but Samantha (Molly Ringwald) gets lost in the hoopla surrounding her sister's wedding. There's no magical metamophosis here, just the help of a well-meaning nerd -- but Sam manages to snag the Prince, and a ride in his chariot (a red Porsche). Cliques rarely intermingle in the real high school hierarchy, and that's what makes this fairy tale so sweet.
