]]>AMC recently announced Rectify as their next series in development. The hour-long legal drama was created and written by Ray McKinnon (The Accountant, Chrystal) who also serves as executive producer on the project. The Shield's Walton Goggins (at right) is set to star as the lead and co-executive produce. Veteran producing talent Mark Johnson will also serve as an executive producer. This marks the second project for Johnson with AMC. The first is the Emmy Award-winning series, Breaking Bad, where he serves as executive producer alongside series creator Vince Gilligan. Rounding out the creative team for Rectify as co-executive producer is Stephen Kay.
]]>A new group of Hollywood hit-makers came along in the 1970s. Francis Ford Coppola was one and Steven Spielberg was another. Over the years both directors have continued to find success, though in very different ways. More interestingly, the movies they make today bear little resemblance to the ones that made them famous.
Shootout co-host Peter Bart felt the two directors going in different directions early on. "Francis Ford Coppola, I felt, wanted to be a studio chief and he tried three or four times," says Bart. "None of that worked out and now he's decided to make really very small pictures, really personal pictures." On the other hand, Bart says, "Steven really was a more personal filmmaker and now he's ended up running a company."

]]>Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were married for 50 years. Admirable for any couple, even those that aren't so good looking. The words of a friend (included in his obituary) help explain the secret of their success:
No one in his audience was ever privy to the tenderness and pride Paul had for Joanne and her talent. Watching him on the set watching her, from his seat by the camera, was to see a man transformed: his brave face taken all unawares, his lips parted in amazement, his eyes brimming with tears that never fell. It was a brief window into a man in perpetual love.
What's not to love about Newman and Woodward individually and the life they built together? They set a good example but are their any younger couples following in their footsteps. Brangelina? TomKat? The assumption is that movie star marriages aren't going to make it.

Eastwood was drawn to the Changeling script because it was based on a true story; the most difficult part of shooting was remembering that "all these people lived." Eastwood also admits it can be easy to overlook an actress as talented as Angelina Jolie because of her constant tabloid exposure.

]]>The red carpet arrivals for Oliver Stone's W. at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City on Tuesday was pretty outrageous. Not because of the movie or the stars, but due to one of the stranger coincidences in movie premiere history: Senator John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, was staying at the Hilton Hotel across the street. Apparently there wasn't much coordination between the premiere folks and the Secret Service. As we were setting up for the premiere, McCain was due to arrive (and did -- which I got on my Flip cam), so the premiere was actually pushed back by half an hour. The whole thing was nuts.
