My picks:
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire—it's the kind of movie that comes once every 10 years.
Best Actor: Sean Penn for Milk—Rourke was THE comeback but Penn's Milk was A role.
Best Actress: Meryl Streep for Doubt—Winslet may have deserved it but Streep's performance controlled the movie and the viewers.
Best Supporting Actor: Robert Downey, Jr. for Tropical Thunder—If Ledger is alive, Downey would've won. Comedy is hard, a comedic character with triple layers is even harder.
Best Supporting Actress: Amy Adams in Doubt—Penelope was like a Paltrow win. Adams stood out against Streep and Hoffman.
Great choices, though I think Ledger would have won dead or alive. Downey was great, but Ledger gave us a villain for the ages. He elevated Dark Knight to the level of art, and the award was also a way of honoring his work in Brokeback Mountain.
I still have to see Doubt. I hear good things about this Meryl Streep woman.
