Why Birdcage is the Best

Because it is.

Well, alright, perhaps my last post was a little too much "to-the-point." I thought I would go into it. I'm David, and I got to be on Cinemania. It was a lot of fun, but the show was so fast that I wasn't able to share why I think the film is so great.

First, what makes a classic, I believe is a film that speaks to us across the ages, parallels many situations, and is truthful. Shakespeare is still going strong because the issues and concerns he addressed in his plays are still issues that modern people face. That's a classic. I believe 'The Birdcage' is very much the same.

'The Birdcage' obviously lends itself to gay issues (mainly non-acceptance and bigotry), yet these issues go across the board into every type of ethnic group, religious group, and social group. We are all at that dinner table. But which character are we? That is what makes a classic.

As for being truthful, the film is very entertaining, contains great one-liners, and bold choices. "Someone has to like me best!" is my favorite. (I think I use that line quite a bit, actually.)

Plus, it's funny. Who doesn't like that?

I enjoy this movie very much. I feel that in this movie it doesn't matter what your gender preference is and that in it they are allowed to freely express themselves as they wish and that they shouldn't be afraid to and well it's either you like me for who I am and for not what I am like Val said to Senator Keeley This is my mom

I'm 51 yrs old, straight, married with 3 grown sons and the last thing I thought about this movie was that it was a "GAY" movie ! To me it was a powerful and wonderfully touching love story that examined the insecurities every committed couple face each day. And on top of that, how your child is embarrassed by who you are and how you act and wants you to act the way they think you should be acting so as to impress those people and not feel embarrassed themselves. Now tell me, those of you who has children, does this sound familiar ???

O.K. Enough rambling, my favorite scene???
Hands down it's when Armand finds Alfred sitting on the bench and asks him to sign the papers giving Armand half of everything. My God, is that Love or what !!!! Just writing those words gave me chills...

I think Hank Azaria is hilarious in this movie! "I never wear shoes, cause they make me fall down." Always great for a pick-me-up.

Hilarious "post" ItstheLod. Thanks!

Hey David! Speaking of who's at the dinner table - "Love is in the air..." :)

My son grew up going to movies with me on the weekend (and some weeknights as well, which he loved doing!!) and even now we enjoy them together - he is 32 and I am in my "mid-50s" - married female and we're both straight and every time we watch "The Bird Cage" we are ROTFLOL - literally!! We practically know the film's dialogue by heart but it never ceases to make us laugh. Ever since Gene Hackman uttered the line "I feel like I am insane", when he starts to put the picture together, so to speak...! I have incorporated that line into my own lexicon. Just a great film with so many great actors - I just love it!! A real classic!!
