The eighties were a golden age for movie spoofs. In fact, some of the decade’s most memorable movies came from the genre — and we’re not talking any of that Scary Movie nonsense. Mel Brooks parodied centuries of history in History of the World: Part I, and in Spaceballs he took on Star Wars (with George Lucas’s blessing). Meanwhile, after Leslie Nielsen’s career flourished in Airplane! and the Naked Gun series, spy-movie send-ups became all the rage, including Spies Like Us (Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase) and Top Secret! (Val Kilmer). With so much topical (at the time) comedy gold to choose from, which eighties spoofs have best stood the test of time?
