Ultimate Fan Quiz - Lonesome Dove
Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones blazed a trail as two of the West's most incorrigible cowboys in the six-hour miniseries Lonesome Dove. During the duo's troubled odyssey to Montana, what does Gus (Duvall) say before he hangs a friend? What does Woodrow (Tommy Lee) distastefully refer to as "Mexican strawberries?" Saddle up -- take the quiz. Take Quiz »

Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones may be the best Western actors ever. Both of them remind me of my late great-uncle who really was a cowboy in Blanco County Texas.
They both certainly have that gnarled, weather-worn quality. Maybe for this reason, a lot of Western actors get better with age (I'm thinking Randolph Scott and even John Wayne, who didn't get famous until later in life).
Hope this logs-in! (*-always denotes OSCAR winner) as for the unforgettable 1989 tv mini-series "Lonesome Dove" Despite it being made for television, it easily ranks up there with the all-time greatest Westerns>"The Searchers" "Shane" "0nce Upon a Time in the West" & others!
I do recall the EMMYS that year & both *Duvall & *Tommy Lee Jones canceled each other out & *Ben Kingsley won instead for "The Simon Wiesenthal Story"-(though a different title)
I believe it was "Murderer's among Us"
It's too bad that if they could have edited some of the sidebar stories out & released this magnificent movie in theaters & see how *OSCAR woulda' treated-it?
"I SWEAR"
This magnificent 1989 tv mini-series ranks up there with the greatest westerns "The Searchers" "Shane" "0nce Upon a Time in the West" & both lead actors lost the EMMY that yr to *Ben Kingsley in "Simon Wiesenthal Bio"
Likely canceling each other out

Since its creation, the TV miniseries was an ideal medium for writers committed to the ambitious nature and heavy epic film adaptations. The format not only offers filmmakers a broader context, a longer run time and the opportunity to delve into minor characters and subplots, which allows them to develop more deliberate plot, character arcs larger, more absorbent and realities . Of course, a miniseries can overwhelm a director and delegate to a slow pace gave birth. However, when done correctly, can captivate the imagination, capturing a boa noite
mensagens para orkut forgotten era, and craft a sweeping story that simply could not be crammed into a two-hour movie. 1989 "Lonesome Dove" CBS-TV West is the perfect example of a miniseries done right. Based on the Pulitzer Prize winner Larry McMurtry's novel of the same name, this six-hour epic connected with the public in a variety of levels, gaining critical acclaim and a collection of Emmy nominations.
