The Newsdesk 05.25.09 - Museum Crushes Terminator; Big Wins for Austrians at Cannes

• Austrian director Michael Haneke scored the Palme d'Or for The White Ribbon at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is a stark black & white drama set during World War II. In other words, catnip to the Cannes crowd. Fellow country man Christoph Waltz took home an acting prize for his work in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. 

• Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian beat Terminator Salvation at the Memorial Day box office, scoring $53.5 million. Never underestimate the power of movie where Hank Azaria plays Abe Lincoln and a talking statue.

• A teaser trailer for Toy Story 3 will be attached to Pixar's Up. Get ready to hear Thin Lizzy's "Boys are Back in Town" rewritten to be about toys.

• More clips have been released from The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. Heath Ledger's final film screened at the Cannes over the weekend.

• Sharon Stone honored the late actress Natasha Richardson at a ceremony at the Cannes Film Festival.

• Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) could be playing Typhoid Mary in a Daredevil reboot for Fox. She was spotted buying Daredevil comics in a comic book store, which is enough these days to start the rumor mill.

• The first photo of Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel in The Last Airbender has been released.
