Is Tom Hanks the New Jimmy Stewart? And If Not Him, Who?

contemporary-redefine-classic-560.jpg

With starring roles in instant classics like The Da Vinci Code and its sequel, Angels & Demons, Tom Hanks continues to solidify his status as a Hollywood actor who's likelier than most to stand the test of time. Like a modern-day Jimmy Stewart, he's the rare actor who's able to embody the prized qualities of his own generation (ace comic timing, a love of extreme roles) while maintaining the timelessness of his predecessors. Of course, he's got competition: Actors like Johnny Depp, Dennis Quaid, and George Clooney summon the classic cool of Stewart and Marlon Brando and manage to make it distinctly their own. Which actor do you think best defines modern classic?

I think every actor has his own era, Tom Hanks a fine actor can not be compared to J. Stewart, at times I think George Clooney is alot like Cary Grant especially in irreconcilable differences, with all the facial contortions an such. I enjoy old movies as much as new ones, actors will always be judged to there predecessors, but enjoy them while you can is what I say. As a foot note I really wish AMC would show more older movies as they did in the past, this new future of classic is SAD SAD SAD come on Commando and Chuckie, Friday the 13th, missing in Action, My kids wont even watch that drivel.

No way. I think Tom Hanks is a great actor amd one of the best in the current era. Jimmy Stewart was one of a kind. I watch Its a Wonderful Life every year around Christmas. I think I can quote every word of the movie and sound just like Jimmy Stewart in the movie.
