Is Tom Hanks the New Jimmy Stewart? And If Not Him, Who?

With starring roles in instant classics like The Da Vinci Code and its sequel, Angels & Demons, Tom Hanks continues to solidify his status as a Hollywood actor who’s likelier than most to stand the test of time. Like a modern-day Jimmy Stewart, he’s the rare actor who’s able to embody the prized qualities of his own generation (ace comic timing, a love of extreme roles) while maintaining the timelessness of his predecessors. Of course, he’s got competition: Actors like Johnny Depp, Dennis Quaid, and George Clooney summon the classic cool of Stewart and Marlon Brando and manage to make it distinctly their own. Which actor do you think best defines modern classic?
