Slumdog Millionaire, Milk, Mad Men and Breaking Bad Snag WGA Awards
Having already racked up DGA, PGA and SAG prizes, Slumdog Millionaire made a clean sweep of the Guilds by winning another award on Saturday night -- the WGA prize for Adapted Screenplay. The script, by Simon Beaufoy, is based on the novel Q and A by Vikas Swarup. The movie's chances on Oscar night continue to increase: For the past four years, the WGA winners have also gone on to win statues in their respective categories. Slumdog Millionaire beat out The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, Doubt and Frost/Nixon for the win.
Among the TV nominees, Mad Men's writing team was recognized in the dramatic series category, while Vince Gilligan was honored with the episodic prize for Breaking Bad 's pilot episode.
The winners in the film categories are:
Original Screenplay: Milk, written by Dustin Lance Black
Adapted Screenplay: Slumdog Millionaire, screenplay by Simon Beaufoy, based on the novel Q and A by Vikas Swarup.
Documentary Screenplay: Waltz With Bashir, written by Ari Folman
The LA Times has the full list of winners.
