King Of Kong - As Good As Errol Morris?

Seth When The King of Kong, Seth Gordon's documentary about the strange world of video game competitions hits theaters this Friday, what you'll see isn't simply a fanboy homage to Donkey Kong, the brain-bustingly difficult arcade video game.  What you'll see is a movie about human nature, greed, jealousy, ego, sadness, fame, about the underdog trying hard to beat the top dog.  And the way Gordon asks questions reminds me of Errol Morris' subtly opinionated method of querying.  That's no mean feat.

I had dinner with Gordon when the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Fest in the spring.  Gordon told me that there may well be a fiction feature based on the documentary.  Picturehouse marketing folks felt that Will Ferrell could star in the movie.  But Gordon, at the time, didn't seem to take to that idea.  You'll understand why when you check out this essential documentary at the theater starting this Friday.
