Which 39 movies would you have picked for Monster Fest, now called Fear Fest?
OK, reviewing the 2008 Fear Fest Horror list for our 8-Day total? Nice that AMC tossed us a bone? (Yes I am trying to be nice Deb, but as far as kids they should stick with 13-Days on The Disney Channel and the Family Channel, and leave AMC to the big kids!
Here are my thoughts on this list. If I would have created this list yes I to would have had considered all our viewer pools and take all in consideration of picks. Such as, looked at the most picked, requested movies then decided and of course to be fair mixed it up a bit.
Lets start with which movies I would have pulled. This is way to easy. Lets start with Bride of Chucky, The Bride of Frankenstein, Constantine, Curse of Frankenstein, Damien: Omen II, Frankenstein Meets Space Monster, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, House of Dracula, House of Frankenstein, Horror of Dracula, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, Magic, Omen III: The Final Conflict, Survival Island, Psycho (1998, Puppet Master, Resident Evil, Return to the House on Haunted Hill, Son of Dracula, Son of Frankenstein, The She-Creature, Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood, and finally Willard.
This is 25 out of 38 movies I would have pulled form this list. Only to have them replaced with the following. Lets see if you agree? I am trying to be fair and make all happy. Ok here I go.
The Exorcist, The Omen (Original Only), Carrie, The Shinning, Psycho (the original), Night of the living Dead, Friday the 13th, Children of the Corn, Childs Play, Black Christmas (original only), Candyman, Cujo, The Blair Witch Project, The Howling, Creep Show, Scream, Salem Lot (Original), Amityville Horror (original), Evil Dead, Dracula, The Wolfman, Frankenstein, (all three the originals!), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original only), Hell Raiser, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Re-make please) and finally Phantasm...
What do you think? I think this is a killer list! Not that AMC list is so bad, I mean they did try. They can only get so many rights to movies. So I am trying to be fair and nice. It just feel that it really stinks that it's down to what 8-days, and you know you will have repeats.
Please tell me/us which movies you would have picked and switched?
Thank you!

Rebecca,
Great thoughts on the movies! I agree, the ones this year are pretty lame. But I think the big problem is getting the rights to those big name movies. They cost quite a bit to show, so it restricts AMC from what they can do. Which is too bad because it's the fans that suffer! Also what a bummer about only 8 days this year. I remember when it seemed like they showed movies for almost half a month! And Monster-Fest will always be in my heart, none of this Fear-Fest!
Wolfman
Dracula
Frankenstein
Mummy
Invisible Man
Psycho (original)
Halloween (original)
The Omen (original)
Poltergeist
The Howling
Carrie
Exorcist
Wolfen
Salem's Lot
Young Frankenstein (for chuckles)
Invasion of The Body Snatchers
Aliens
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Late Night B-Movies: (If they are cheesy, at least make them classically cheesy)
Them
Brain That Wouldn't Die
Curse of The Demon
White Zombie
Cat People
Plan 9 From Outer Space
The Body Snatcher (Karloff and Legosi)
New Movies I Could Live With:
The Ring
Underworld

Van Helsing
I agree with bela except THE INVISIBLE MAN He's to boring. Switch him out with CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON And for chuckles LOVE AT FIRST BITE along with YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. Throw in a witch movie and that would be a fun night. Oh I could'nt live with PITCH BLACK. Other than that good list BelaKarloff.???? Have you ever seen Black Sabbath?
After reviewing the schedule, I am very upset about the movies that have been chosen. I wait all year to watch the 13 days of Monsterfest, and now they not only shorten the event, but broadcast movies no one cares for. I think the reason people get upset when they see the schedule is because people want to see certain characters. If its halloween season, I want to see Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy, Chucky, Leatherface, Ghostface, Exorcist, Jaws (still scary.... you swim in a pool after you see that and tell me you aren't freaked out), Pinhead, Pennywise. I mean I can go on and on. There are just certain characters you want to see during this season. I also don't know why AMC likes to show sequels and not the originals. All last year, it seemed like Scream 3 was on everyday. But never the original Scream? This year, its the Omen 2 and 3. Jason goes to Hell....really? Why can't they play one of the original Friday the 13ths, before the whole franchise went to hell too.
AMC is right to not call this year Monsterfest, because it ruins the name of great years past.
I have to agree with Captainpdp, it stinks that they are shortening MonsterFest (or FearFest as they are now calling it) Many of the films on the pulled list are cheesy and bad, but they are so much fun to watch!! How about adding "Mad Monster Party" to the list....and don't cut back on the playlist please!
I like all your picks, Rebecca
Thank you much Wendola...
I appreciate the compliment!
How about your picks?
They need to have original monsters like pinhead from hellraiser and instead of Halloween 4,5, and 6, why not 1 and two, they need to have the original Friday the Thirteenth because after that one, all the endings are the same and it gets old. Also they should have really old movies, like Nosferatu, or Dracula, even the silent film The Bat (which no one ever probably heard of). I agree too that they should make the event longer, and was it really necesary to change the name of the event?
Also other movies i would like to see:
1. The day the earth stood still (I know it's not a horror movie, but with the remake coming out, i think it might be fitting)
2. Amityville Horror
3. Evil Dead
4. Adam West Batman Episodes (ya know just to add a little humor to the halloween scene)
5. Hellraiser
6. Carrie
7. Saw
8. Gremlins
9. Psycho
I can't think of any more, but these should definitely be up there. It floors me that they would put such a heap of steaming crap like "Jason goes to Hell". What the heck were they thinking?
It is a drag that they are basically killing off Monsterfest with the horrid choices they have been making the last couple years, well the last few years.
So this is my list. Sidenote: All movies are originals, I despise remakes.
1.Halloween
2.Nightmare on Elm Street
3.Friday the 13th
4.Any Hammer Films movies-prefer the Dracula films
5.Dracula
6.Frankenstein
7.The Wolf Man
8.House of Blood
9.Phantasm
10.Prince of Darkness
11,Night of the Living Dead
12.Any Vincent Price movies-prefer Edgar Allen Poe tales
13.House of 1000 Corpses
14.The Devil's Rejects
15.Evil Dead Trilogy
16.Texas Chainsaw Massacre
17.Last House on the Left
18.Tales from the Crypt
19.Creepshow 1-2
20.Silver Bullet
I used to look forward every October to the Monsterfest schedule. Now I hardly bother because it has devolved into such a pile of garbage. I just don't understand why they persist with such a rotten line-up. I agree with most of the contributors choices. I can even tolerate a few clunckers if they could just play the Universal Classics. Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon. Those were the nights I would sit in the dark and actually enjoy it! I would even go on-line and take all the Mosterfest related quizzes and enter the contests. Bring back Monsterfest and ditch Fearfest!!!!! Please!
I really wish they would bring back monsterfest to the entire month of October and bring back fear fridays to a prime-time slot and not start it midnight or later. Here's what I hope to see on this years Fear Fest.
Keep the Halloween series, just don't give the prime time slot every nitght.
Childs Play
Fright Night
Universal Classics
Hammer Classics
Bettlejuice
Jaws
Ghostbusters
Goonies
The Lost Boys
Friday the 13th series
The Thing (Both the original and Carpenter's)
They Live
Creepshow I and II
Amittyville horror trilogy
House on Haunted Hill
Night of the Living Dead
The Blob (1988)
.... the classics, no rip offs and no originals. Just show fun movies.
I agree with you almost completely, wouldn't have pulled 2 or 3 of the ones you did, and about the same number from the list of flicks you'd replace them with. But you've got a pretty sweet list there
