Horror Power Ranking List - July 14, 2008
Four new items hit the list this week, but it's hold-over Hellboy II that dominates. Defying classification, Hellboy is neither action, comedy, nor even fully horror; though it's got enough monsters to fuel your nightmares for... Well, forever, actually. Plus, your input helps bump up both The X-Files (hooray), and Twilight (boo), and things start to get personal. The only thing hotter than the weather is the Horror Power Rankings, so let's get to 'em:

Hellboy II: The Golden Army Grady, listen: First you say I can't handle Tokyo Gore Police. Then you give a poor review to the rather excellent Hellboy II. I guess what I'm trying to say is: It's on. This is easily the best film of the week, and possibly of the summer (so far)... |

The X-Files: I Want to Believe ...At least until Monsterfester Whitney and I go see X-Files on opening weekend . Whitney, I'll even buy you popcorn and soda. Oh, Grady? You're not invited. X-Files has always aced the horror elements, and this flick will be no different. |

Repo: The Genetic Opera Okay, some disclosure: My brother did some of the music for this film. But before I lose the small shred of cred I actually have, I will add that after SDCC, this film is going to turn into a stealth hit. Stay tuned... |

Poultreygeist Glory be to his highness Toxie, because Troma has put out a totally NSFW trailer for this tale of mutant chickens. Weirdly for a Troma film, it's not as horrific as Repo, but it's got it's fair share of delightful grossness. |

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Is it self-serving to point out that reviewing Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D made me pretty excited to see Brendan Fraser once again battling CGI Monsters? Only reason this isn't ranking higher? J2tCotE:3D was just OK. |

The Goon Not only is Eric Powell's excellent comic book series being adapted into an animated film by David Fincher, but Powell himself is guesting on my panel at San Diego Comic Con. Expect to see a lot more of this in the future... |

Friday the 13th Sometimes, it takes something bad to make you realize how good something else is. Though I hate the idea of this reboot, compare and contrast this with number nine below, and suddenly, it feels like the second coming. Yipes. |

Twilight Last week, I challenged you all to give me a good reason to kick Twilight off this list. Court suggested this EW cover. Court, I have some bad news, buddy... That cover is so hilarious, Twilight just moved up two slots. |

A Nightmare on Elm Street Speaking of hilarious, as reprehensible as the idea of a Nightmare on Elm Street remake is, I'm pretty amused by the idea that there are two petitions online: One to put Tara Reid in the movie, one to keep her out. |

Werewolf Women of the SS Rob Zombie, creator of the most awesome tagline in movie history, is turning his Grindhouse trailer into a comic book. Which would also be totally awesome, except it was the fourth best trailer on Grindhouse. Where's my "Don't" comic? |

Okay, I can't do anything but LOL at that news. That movie is going to be so bad, I'm just going to sit and enjoy the ride.
Oh! You won my heart with soda!
