It's been almost 50 years since the first Twilight Zone episode hit network television. Its short, five-year history inspired many filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg and Jon Landis, who together made Twilight Zone: The Movie. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, another Twilight Zone tale will be coming to the big screen.

Shooting on Countdown, a sci-fi tale with horror elements, will begin as early as this summer. The story of three spacemen who land on a planet only to find duplicates of their bodies dead near a spaceship, is based on Richard Matheson's "Death Ship," and aired on the anthology show on February 7, 1963 with Jack Klugman. Now, writer-turned-director Michael Brandt has gotten Summit Entertainment to cough up $30 million for an adaptation of the tale. Says Brandt, "Countdown is fantastic because it wraps the themes of fate and predestination in a movie that is really a giant puzzle (that will also) be fun for the audience to piece together." But Brandt knows that putting anything TZ-related in theaters is a risk: The show was nearly flawless; the movie has to be flawless as well.
