Unforgiven + Lovecraft = Neil Marshall's Sacrilege

WIth Doomsday just a few days away from release, director Neil Marshall has already lined up his new gig, a tasty horror-meets-Western hybrid called Sacrilege. Variety spoke to Marshall, who says Sacrilege "'is set during the Gold Rush, a time remembered for incidents like the Donner Party. It is meant to be a pitch-black, gritty, period horror movie.'" Marshall also reports the film will be influenced by everything from Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven to John Carpenter's The Thing to stories from H.P. Lovecraft, adding that the film will include a kind of horror that "nobody has seen before."

That's a bold statement, perhaps impossible to pull off in lesser hands. But if anyone can pull it off, this British-born director can. If you're looking for proof, you need look no further than The Descent.
