New Horror Host Wolfman Mac Haunts Detroit TV

WolfmanMac (Small).jpgFor the first time in my life, I wish I lived in Detroit.

The Motor City may be best known for great American cars and great American music, but now it's bringing back another all-American tradition -- the late night TV horror host.  The show, called Nightmare SINema hosted by "Wolfman Mac", features sketches, classic commercials, animated shorts and classic horror movies.  It started airing on Detroit public access last year and recently began airing on the local "My" affiliate on Friday nights at 1 AM.

The brainchild of local DJ Mac Kelly, Nightmare SINema recalls the days of such great Detroit horror hosts as Sir Ghastly Graves and The Ghoul. Targeted for kids and nostalgic boomers, it currently airs public domain movies like The Brain That Wouldn't Die and Little Shop of Horrors. But the hope is that if the show prospers at its new home, they will be able license a classic or two -- and maybe even move to a timeslot when most kids are actually awake.

I haven't seen much of the show, though there are some amusing clips on YouTube. But even if it were the worst TV had to offer, I would still want it to succeed simply because it would be great to have a TV horror host comeback.  I miss gawking at the likes of Son of Svengoolie and Zacherly, people who made horror movies fun for everyone young and old. Good luck, Wolfman Mac, and remember: stay sick, turn blue, scratch glass, climb the walls, just don't get caught.

DARKHAUS SOUNDandFILM, INC
had a cable access show for 3 years called Psychotic SINema which Mac Kelly guest hosted a few times. We lent or whole look, sound, everything that was Psychotic SINema to Nightmare SINema in good faith as we were told we were partners. I myself even composed performed the NS Theme song.
Our company provided all the films, vintage commercials, editing mastering, animation for Boney Bob, burned it all onto BETA SP tapes and dealt with My20TV.

WE did 10 episodes for free, as per our agreement, then we did 5 more for My20TV unpaid, then we did a sixteenth episode
and finally my partners up here said "hey, this is gotta change at least to get him to finally sign the contract". So I pressed him to sign and
pony-up at least a little dough and he quit talking to us and Sunday I was getting calls e-mails from his crew saying that it was a bummer we had to quit (?).
We didn't quit.
Have not had any voicemails or e-mails returned yet from Mac, but apparently they already have a new guy editing the show.
Really disrespectful after all the time money we put into the show in good faith,
and mostly hurtful.
But at least I can look at myself in the mirror with a clear conscience.
Our lawyer got on it, and My20TV yanked him off the air for now.
Really sucks.

Unreal, I had similar experience with Mac. This guy made a LOT of commitments which he did not keep (a deal is a deal in this business; your word is your CONTRACT).

A lot of others have picked up on this, since he has a different crew every week, people won't come back. Sitting in the Peanut Gallery all night is NOT a job!

Ironically, Mac complained often on the set about "for what we pay them..." type comments about editing services, which is strange, because the whole show is done before a green screen and the editing MAKES the show, gave it a professional look, etc. Now to learn he was getting those episodes COMPED! He had a killer deal and blew it.

It's a small world and word does get around. He is constantly re-negging without telling you he's re-negging... It's bad business to operate like that, and yes, hurtful too.

Wow. i'm an intern on Mac's set for the nightmare cinema show. i've only been here a few months but Mac seems to be a pretty cool guy. He never complains about anything. Well sometimes he say he's hungry. But that's more of a statement, LOL We like that becuz that means we all get pizza!

He dont say anything bad about anybody from what i seen.

as far as the cast goes, i'd say it's growing. same people every week and then some.

i talk to a bunch of other people and they all say he is a good guy.

i'm going to forward him this.
