Stephen King + Chuck Palahniuk = Scott Sigler

infected.jpg

What if serial killing started with a virus, a bug that bit you and made you rip flesh at random? That's part of the premise of Infected, Scott Sigler's upcoming horror meets science fiction tome to be released by Random House/Crown on April 1. Rogue Pictures has already optioned the novel -- along with its sequel. Back in May, The Hollywood Reporter said, "The book follows a CIA black ops specialist and a Center for Disease Control scientist who team to contain a rapidly spreading parasite whose bite turns ordinary people into crazed serial killers. The trail of corpses leads to an infected man who is fighting a bloody battle for control of his own mind and body." They then proceeded to call the book "Infested." Ah, journalism.

Sigler has been talking up the book on his Web site, which is also notable for its release of Nocturnal, the free episodic horror audio book, read by the author himself. You can become one of Sigler's fans, whom he rightly calls Junkies, but you have to be ready for some seriously violent horror.

What a thrill to see my name on your blog, thanks! I can't complain about the headline, I'll bask in the preemptive glow in case the real glow doesn't show up when the book goes on sale.

However, it wasn't the Hollywood Reporter's fault - the project was originally called INFESTED. Then we got a letter from Josh Olson's lawyers telling us we couldn't use the name because he's working on a sequel to the 2002 DVD-release movie of the same name. Crown Publishing and Rogue Pictures opted to change the title to accommodate.

So the Hollywood Reporter had it right, now the sucker is called INFECTED and we're ready to rock on April 1 when the hardcover drops.

Oh, but the parasite is so much more than that, now isn't it? Oh, you people have no idea what to expect! Heh heh heh...

Scott, I am thrilled that you took the time to comment...and set the record straight about my former employer, the Hollywood Reporter. I can't wait to read the book, and to catch up with the Nocturnal podcasts. What an f'in' gift for fans!

I am one of Sigler's Junkies. I am addicted to his wonderful insane world, where horror and sci-fi compete against the real and mundane. Try listening to just one of his free audio offerings and you will see why we are called Junkies...come join us. Become INFECTED, You will never be the same, (but in a good way).

As my name indicates, I'm, also a Sigler junkie. As you all will be mwahahaha. Awesome for you to mention him here, Harold. I'm looking forward to when we'll all be watching Sigler movies on AMC. He might be dead by then of course, but won't that make them even more classic?

I really dug this book, Sigler has a way of coming up with seriously twisted plotlines in a deliciously morbid universe. Definately give it a look!

Awesome!
Infected is by far my favourite Sigler novel. I don't know if that's because I'm sick or what but it is a very good novel, no bout adoubt it. It has everything a good horror novel should have, but it's by no means formulaic.
You have to read it, just to give it a go. The whole novel experience is freakin amazing. I remember the insane number of times I had to stop what I was doing and just hear Scott describe the most horrifying things (garnered many funny looks on the train).

Being a long time Sigler fan, it is a treat to see his work finally being published for mainstream distribution! It's also great to see it being discussed in forums such as this.

I can't wait for April 1st, when the masses are exposed to Infested. I believe horror and thriller fans, especially, will appreciate Sigler's penache for writing plotlines that are disturbing, yet fascinating, and full of macabre twists.

Take my word for it -- what Fight Club did for pink bars of soap, Infested will do for the common pair of chicken scissors!

For any of you who haven't listened to or read this Author's work (that's right I CAPITALIZED it), you are missing out. Sigler isn't just a sign of the next big thing, I think his stuff is going to really change the way we look at horror and scifi.

It's good to have someplace to go when all you get in the media is the next Mansquito.

www.scottsigler.com is the place you should be going next. right after Amazon.com. Read Ancestor, Listen to the Rookie, get INFECTED.

scott has a way of weaving a tale that keeps you wanting more. i first heard sigler on escapepod.org, saw his books listed on podiobooks.com, heard mur lafferty plugging his stuff and finally started downloading him from podiobooks, then subcribed for anything and everything scott puts out and i confess that i am a Damn Dirty Junkie from the first word of the first story of his i heard. i didn't used to like to hear the level of violence and profanity he has in his books, but his stories are so captivating, that the language and violence seem to be the palette scott uses to tell his tales. check him out, listen, get hooked.

infested will grab you by the short and curlies and keep you begging for more

treed,
the junkie who just won't quit posting comments

I was infected with Earthcore and never looked back. Scott does such a great job telling a story and then using the medium to get you fully addicted. Anyone that likes King, Crichton, and others like them, you will love Sigler.

Scott's work has done something that I thought was hopeless for quite some time ... made horror/sci-fi fresh and fun again.
His work is a wonderful balance of humor, horror, techno-fear and biology gone amok. Not to mention lots and lots of violence ... !
Yes we, his fans, are junkies, because the fix is exquisite and yet we always know that the next one will be even sweeter than the last.
Sooner or later, Scotts' work will make the big screen and I believe his writing style will be a sight to behold indeed.
Not a believer now?
Don't worry, with the first free hit and a little bit of discipline, and you'll be a true believer very, very soon ...

Sigler's books are all great! I became a junkie with the rookie, and now I have listened to them all. Infected is the best one, but my question is how did it take major publishing this long to realize his domination of the horror - sci-fi market?

Don't miss Earthcore, Ancestor or The Rookie!
