What's Your Worst Halloween Ever?

Peanuts3Halloween 1982 was a real disaster, a pity especially considering how much I was looking forward to it at the time.  It fell on a Sunday that year and I had psyched myself up for a memorable Halloween that turned out to be bad for all the wrong reasons.  To start, it rained that night, never a good sign, and my Indiana Jones costume didn't really look authentic enough (it was probably because my fedora was blue and my black vinyl jacket was no substitute for brown leather).  Hey, I had to make due with what was in the closet.

But what made matters worse was something that had nothing to do with Halloween: In the fall of '82, someone in the Chicago area was tampering with Tylenol capsules and lacing them with cyanide.  Seven people had died, and all of a sudden consumers were paranoid about crazy people futzing with anything you can find on a supermarket shelf.  Because of this, people got this idea in their heads that they shouldn't give out candy on Halloween and the turnout was pretty terrible.  There wasn't a lot of candy to be had and what I did get was gone in just a few short days.  I know it doesn't compare to the unnecessary (and still unsolved) deaths of seven innocent people, but I was pretty peeved at the time.  I've grown up some since then.

In the same spirit, the editors of The Horror Blog have polled other horror bloggers about their lousy experiences of Halloweens past.  Considering none of them mention this incident, I'm guessing they all had a much better Halloween back in '82.  Read their stories here.

You can check out my sad Halloween story here: http://camp-blood.blogspot.com/2006/11/halloween-disaster.html

It's not awful, just more disappointing & it ended oddly...

I don't have bad Halloweens (best holiday ever), so I'll talk about my best. My friends and I went out as Freddy, Jason, and Michael (me) and scared a bunch of kids. Then we went back to my house and watched the AMC Halloween marathon on one TV and the Evil Dead series and Romero Zombie series on another, it was great!

Worst Halloween was when it rained with little visibility all night long. My siblings took me with them briefly. We only made it to maybe 3 houses. Everything was pitch. They led me on either side by the hand and I literally blindly followed. I was about 6 years old wearing a Frankenstein mask. The eye holes were about eyebrow level.I can still remember what it sounded like hearing my own breathing and the steamy warmth. I was sick the next few days with cold and fever. One of the best ever--costuming myself a few years ago and making rounds with my sons who are both taller than I am. For safety reasons and peace of mind I tagged along in style. That evening several people greeted me by different names of their friends. No one seemed to suspect I was, "MOM".

My worst Halloween ever was last year, because it was sad. I lost 20-year-old cat, a true Halloween cat with yellow-green eyes and a bad attitude, on October 17th and it basically ruined the whole holiday for me.

I'm a paramedic working on the night of Samhain about fourteen years ago. We got this call about a young boy who got hit by a car trick or treating. It was so sad I can't even type about it! Many blessings to his family on this day.

It was halloween night. I had just gotton done collecting candy when my family decide to watch nightmare on elm street. I was three at the time. Anyway when we finished watching the movie I was scared out of my mind. Anyway I did not want to go to bed, but my parents made me. So I go to bed and finally fall asleep. When all of a sudden I heard a scratching inside my room underneath my bed. There was a raspy voice saying "Jonathan" and laughing 1,2, I am coming for you! Then all of a sudden my older sister pops out under my bed and scares me later. The next day I found out that the creep ate all my candy as well. What a great sister!!

I was 29years old now 42. I went to a haunted house with some friends and when I was walking through the house something jumped out at me, not only scared the crap out of me but made me fall so hard i ended up needing spinal surgery. One spinal surgery turned into 3 major surgerys. Now I am disabled and walker bound for the rest of my life. And also narcotic pain medicine daily. So thats my worst Halloween ever and every year I re-live it.

I remember when i was about eight years old my family were all in the neighborhood chatting with the neighbors, some guy came along drunk with a knife in his hand. Everyone ran but I was young I did not know any better so I stood still in a shock. He came down the block and headed for me but I just thought he was losing his balance... Then all I felt was my uncle grabbing me by my costume dragging me into a gated area... The guy just started cursing and he was taken by the cops... I was so afraid that I just passed out in my uncle's arms. That was the scariest halloween of my life

Halloween 2004 I worked at Six Flags. I was suspended on the last day the park was opened for supposedly saying to a guest "It's my last day and I don't care." This was with the Boss ride. I swear to this day I never said those words to a guest. Later on I was fired even though that Halloween was the last day for seasonal workers. At least I got to watch some of Dracula Dead and Loving It which I really like. I didnt even get to work the hayride even though that was separate from the incident with the Boss ride. Thanks so much for airing the Monsterfest stuff. I always look forward to it in October.
