Underworld 3 Without Beckinsale
I wasn't thrilled or chilled by Underworld. But Underworld Evolution was another thing altogether. I felt the film went deep, very deep, into the mythos of its signature vampires and Lycans. And it looked a lot better than Underworld. Now, reports Bloody Disgusting, Underworld 3 will began shooting in sometime between January and March, 2008, in Auckland (of all places).
Since Kate Beckinsale has refused to participate in the 2009 release, the movie will be a prequel. Yet even though hubby Len Wiseman will write and direct the movie (as he has the others), Cinema Blend believes it will go straight to video without wife Kate. (I doubt that.) Says Social Media, "Wiseman said the film 'will be the origin story and we find out things we didn’t know about Lucian; he’ll have a much bigger part in it. It will be about the creation [of the races] and what started the war. It will be a period piece... It will be in the time period before, but it will overlap into the creation of her [character] as well. We’re in the process of seeing how far we go with that.' That sounds good to me, whether Kate's in it or not.
Surprisingly, I think this should go without her. I haven't seen the second, but weren't we promised a whole story about Lucian and Sonia's ill-fated romance? They need to recast Shane Brolly, though...the man is a plank of wood that makes Eric Mabius look like a popsicle stick.

I absolutely agree with Mordicai! I loved the first one but the second was a huge let-down...I did like the parts about the feud and Lucian et. al in the past, but everything with Beckinsale and Scott Speedman was just horrible. So maybe this focus on the events before the first movie is a good thing.
I have not seen the second one, only because the first one was so terrible. They spent so much time on the lore, that the movie became such a bore.
Alright kids, I'm coming out on this one. I love both Underworld films. As most of you here know I'm a huge werewolf fan so anything with a werewolf is bound to hook me. I liked both of these films and while I definitely thought that Underworld was weeker than Evolution I thought they were both great films! So I'm all for this prequel with or with out Beckinsdale, and the good new out of all of this Bill Nighy will be returning. So that's all I need to know. He is turning out to be one of my favorite actors as of late.
