Horror Icon on AMC: Jason Voorhees
Jason Voorhees' claim to serial killer infamy is his menacing hockey mask. Time builds a reputation and for Voorhees, it's all but forgotten that Jason doesn’t actually don the mask until Friday The 13th Part III. Since then, Jason’s had his Final Chapter, A New Beginning, and drenched himself in The New Blood.
Friday the 13th Part 3 and 7 air tonight on AMC.
Say what you want about Jason's machete-wielding, homicidal tendencies, the guy sure has lived an interesting, if bloody, cinematic life. You have to wonder if Jason had stuck with his disguise from Part 2 - a burlap sack - whether he would have had the opportunity to kill so many people and instilled fear in countless movie fans. Can you really imagine a bunch of kids trick or treating on Halloween with a burlap sack over their heads?
Given the word of a remake, Jason's hack and slash legacy is a testament to the staying power of a homicidal maniac wearing a hockey mask. So be sure to check out Jason’s first foray into sports equipment in Friday The 13th Part III. Although Part 3 won’t be shown in 3-D (as it originally was), it's plenty bloody in two dimensions.

I kind of resent Jason and the F13s for the popularity they have in horror circles, or even the reputation they have outside of horror circles. This is what people think of when they think of horror, and it's simply moronic and one-dimensional. I just can't see the appeal, when the genre has so much better, more interesting, more inventive, stuff to offer. It's like what Tom Savini says in the extras of 'The Burning' DVD--"If you watch any of the F13s after the first one, you're stupid."

I LOVE F13TH.I'VE SEEN THEM SO MANY TIMES THAT ICAN LOOK AT ONLY A FEW SECONDS OF A CLIP AND TELL U THE TITLE.I KNOW IT'S SICK ISNT IT? IT WAS THE FIRST MOVIE THAT TRUELY SCARED MY OLDER BROTHERS SO I FIGERED IF I COULD WATCH IT WITH OUT SCREAMING THEY WOULD LET ME WATCH WITH THEM.PROVING HOW TOUGH I WAS.
Just wanted to let you know I am glad AMC is taking the time and having the guts to show as much horror films as you are. We just did a whole piece on you on our Blog over at the Haunted Report. Keep on keeping on!
It's all about the hockey mask!
Will E.: The reality is that the appeal is there. Cult devotion is a big part of the "horror circles." We don't all need to have the entire world respect our genre. F13 doesn't care if it wins and academy award, it exists for its fans. I'm sorry you don't get it, but millions of us do.
I love Tome Savini...he is the master...but he is wrong about Jason. The rest of that quote is:"Cause there's no Jason. There shouldn't be a Jason." Countless movies have been based on false assumptions.
I love F13 because every movie every sequel has to start where the last one left off. And although they have cheated many times, I love the challenge this presents. It's kind of like Kathy Bates in Misery.
Part VI is my favorite of the sequels because they use Lightning to bring him back. That movie is full of classic horror references too. Deffinately worth suffering through the crappy acting.
VII is great too. Deffinately my favorite Jason of the whole series. He looks awesome, and he walks like areal badass. It's amazing what a difference Kane Hodder made.
i like the ft13s. 1-3 are the best that i actually take as decent serious slasher films. 4-7 are just fun slashers that are worth a few to horror fans. like Stairyo stated, i love the lightning scene even if there is the crappy acting. it may not be the best horror seires, but ft13 is a fun worth watching seires.
Does anyone know the name of the song playing in the Friday the 13th/Jason commercial that was airing on AMC for a few days. The commercial displayed the words, "No, You can't still be alive". The commercial was only for two Friday the 13th movies AMC showed on Mon. night I believe. The song sounded kind of ska and it has horns in the beginning but any vocals are near impossible to comprehend. Thanks very much to anyone who can help. This has been driving me bananas!

Tom Savini is great, a true legend in the special effects field, but... he seems to have lost his mind over the years. This is also a guy who says he doesn't understand why so many people think John Carpenter's Halloween is a classic. This from a guy who considers himself an actor nowadays (awful, yet hilarious).
Anyhoo, of all the F13's, my favorite is Part II. That burlap sack is more frightening to me than the hockey mask (which is cool, but not scary). Uber Jason from Jason X, the mask portion anyways, just plain silly. Fun movie though.
There will always be the true fans of the F13 series, & their will also always be the critics & haters of the series. Friday the 13th has become a cultural phenomenon & Jason a pop culture icon that will live on for who knows how long. I am a huge fan of the series, my favorite being the original. Sure, there are better films in the horror genre, but F13 did help pave the way for modern horror. It struck a chord for a new fanbase & a lot of us have stuck with it. I do agree that the franchise got cheesier over time & there are some really bad points throughout the series, but the films are for the diehard fans. Whether you like it or not, Friday the 13th & Jason are here to stay.
