"Hellraiser" in Remake Purgatory

Hellraiserposter01 Who is to blame for all the horror remakes? The studios that churn them out or the fans who continue to support them?   The latest remake news is Hellraiser. Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury are in "hard negotiations" to front the remake for Dimension Films, reports Bloody-Disgusting.com.

Although B-D raves about the duo's debut film Inside, the classic remake track record isn't too hot. Sure, you get a good one from time to time, but horror remakes rarely top the original. There's a new generation of horror fans who have grown up on Saw and Hostel, and they easily dismiss the classics such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre based on the remakes. When you mess with classic horror franchises, the original film loses some of its potency.

You know remakes are weird. I don't hate them. I have the originals that I still watch and enjoy and I will raise my son to enjoy the originals before I show him the remakes, but this one kind of hits pretty close to home. I don't think they will ever capture the majesty of the original or Barker's vision. I know Barker wrote the screenplay himself so we will see how it all turns out.

Bad Idea! I'm not against remakes. Some of my favorite films could bennefit from some better acting, or more realistic special effects, and Hellraiser certainly had it's share of campy camera moves and over the top performances. But I just don't see how a remake can match the original here. I don't mind if someone makes another useless sequel, but a remake sounds to me like a waste of time.

i dont support a remake of a classic, but i will definately see this to see what they do with the film. its not like a ft13 remake where the stick a mask on someone and make em kill. its going to be interesing to see what the new cenobites costumes would look like, and the set too.
