Blood Sucking Fun: Classic Vampire Movies
When it comes to classic horror characters, Count Dracula stands head and fangs above the crowd. More than 150 films have featured the blood-sucking Count, not counting spin-offs like Dracula's Daughter and The Brides of Dracula. The 1931 film Dracula starring Bela Lugosi and directed by Tod Browning is one of the most famous versions of the story, but there are plenty of other Drac-classics including these campy favorites:
1. Dracula 2000 (sometimes known as “Wes Craven’s Dracula”)
Horror master Wes Craven was the executive producer for this Drac pic from 2000, which stars Christopher Plummer as an English antiques dealer who ends up hunting down the count (Gerard Butler) in spooky New Orleans. A somewhat futuristic take on Dracula that’s worth seeing if for nothing more than the classic Drac line: “You Brits like to sweet-talk. You Brits like to romance, and all I wanna do is suck.”
2. Slaughter of the Vampires
This 1962 film directed by Roberto Mauri is one of many Italian-made gothic horror films that flourished in the late 50s and early 60s, sometimes called spaghetti horror films. In this movie, a newlywed couple enjoying their wedding night find themselves – wait for it - menaced by a bloodthirsty vampire. The dialog is reliably schlocky, but the moody black and white cinematography makes this pic worth a look.
3. Blood of the Vampire
A vampire movie without blood is like a Bruce Willis film without a gun. This 1958 film features plenty of blood, but oddly, no vampire. The plot centers on a wicked warden in a remote castle who imprisons a doctor in order to find a cure for a rare blood disease. Whatever. The plot is a bit campy, but it’s a good old-fashioned horror flick.
4. Blood of Dracula
This 1957 film puts a new twist on the Dracula tale: a blood-sucking girl! In the film, a girl at a reform school is turned into a vampire by hypnosis and sets out to kill her classmates. After a few full-moon murders, the girl discovers that the killer is – gasp – herself! In a way, this film reverses the typical horror movie cliché by making the monster a young attractive heroine. Fans of drive-in movie horror films will find this a fun romp.

Where is Bram Stoker's Dracula? It is the only one to look like the screen writer read the actual book. The effects are fantastic and the Count is a three dimensional character. We are given an opportunity to see why he turned evil. The cleric who informs him of his wife's death handles it all wrong and in a fit of despondency he turns his back on God.
For Heaven Sakes, I cannot believe you omitted the most terrifying Dracula movie I ever saw. The movie gave me horrible nightmares for weeks after I watched it.
Dracula starring Jack Palance was the MOST, the BEST portrait of Dracula ever, ever done. Far and away the most in depth and thought provoking portrayal as well as the most terrifying! It kept me riveted to the screen throughout and I didn't get a good night's sleep for weeks afterwards. To this day thinking of it causes me to shudder.
What about "ANDY WARHOL'S BLOOD FOR DRACULA" directed by Paul Morrisy? If campy is you game, you better check out this ridiculous horror movie with the most hilarious scene of blood poisoning ever shot.
When does monsterfest start. It should start October 1st !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with the first comment.... Monsterfest should start Oct. 1st!!!!!!!!!!!
Bram Stoker's Dracula is the best vampire movie, other than the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi. When does Monsterfest Start? Where is the MF schedule?
Looks like Monsterfest starts in full force Oct 22 - just check AMCs monthly schedule for Oct.
Everybody seems to have forgotten that British actor Christopher Lee also played Count Dracula. Never spoke a line, but you felt his presence in the room while watching the movie.
I think that monterfest should start sooner than the last week of october. Also they should give not alot but the movie "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD"
I really wish AMC would get their act together and stop showing the same movies every Monsterfest. I mean showing all the Halloween movies on the 31st. is a good idea but how many more times do we really need to see them in a week and a half and how about all the other movies, do we really need to see each one at least once every other day? They should have enough movies to last the whole week and a half without having to show the same movie more than twice. And how about less slasher movies and more monster movies I mean is it Monsterfest or Slasherfest. Personally I wish AMC would go back and have another Monsterfest like the one that was hosted by Roger Corman with all the classic 50's & 60's monster movies like The Beast From 2000 Fathoms, The She Creature, Reptilicus, and The Godzilla Marathon, and have another miniseries at the beginning of each movie like they did with the Phantom Eye, still regret not getting to see that one all the way through.
I agree with the first two comments. I think Monster-Fest should start October 1st, with a much wider variety of movies. I'd personally like to see movies listed anywhere from the 50's to present. Heck, if AMC would start October 1st, they'd have plenty of time to show many movies.
I agree with the earlier comment about having Monsterfest run the whole month of October to give them time to show way more movies. I want to see movies from the 40s onward. There should be enough movies to only repeat once or twice as well.
I also wish they would have another good contest like they did in 2004.
Please, please, please don't squander your opportunity AMC. Monsterfest has gotten lamer every year since 2003 or 2004. Last year was so bad I didn't even bother watching.
I agree with everyone else about starting Monsterfest on Oct. 1 and not the last week of the month. Also, why hasn't AMC updated the Monsterfest website! It's the same one from last year!
WHY do all the stations not show halloween shows ALL of Oct. instead of the last few days!? And NOT the boring teen girls getting slashed, but classics like The Mummy, Frankenstein, Plague of the Zombies, classic Dracula like the ones with Christopher Lee and earlier. If you go to any store, they have all of their halloween merchandise out in late Sept. I decorate my house the 1st day of Oct. for halloween, get on the ball, set a new standard for all the other stations to follow!
I agree, "Bram Stoker's Dracula" is a great film, but it's broadcasted on almost every other movie channel throughout the year. Why don't we try adding some stuff that isn't usually shown on network TV? (i.e. "Evil Dead 1 or 2" instead of "Army of Darkness," which Sci-Fi shows continually). By the way, AMC, props for showing the first "Hellraiser" last year. Oh, and lastly, what's the matter with you? Why don't you start MONSTERFEST on October first anymore? I quit my job last week so I'd be able to stay home watching horror movies, and instead I'm stuck with the "Young Guns" series? Give me a break! I'm going to the video store.
I agree!! Start Monsterfest on October 1st!! You guys start it WAY too late in the month. There are TONS of horror movies out there and enough to go around for 31 days.
Hi, just FYI we will be launching the Monsterfest site for this year tomorrow. In terms of films - we have 2 horror films Spiderbaby and Dementia 13 viewable *in full* right here on the web site, plus we will have a number of "movies in a minute" or mini movies in which we cut down, for example, The Exorcist into a 1 minute movie. The full-length movies are now available in our Monsterfest video player. Movies in a Minute are coming either tomorrow or early next week. So, from an online standpoint, we do have some horror films going already... (And the Network has Fear Fridays). In terms of missing Draculas-thanks for the commments... We'll have more on vampires as the month progresses.
I'd love to see some classic by Hammer; European classics like Black Sunday & Black Sabbath; classic tv films like The Night Stalker, Dark Night of the Scarecrow, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark or Trilogy of Terror; as well as more obscure films like The Grave of the Vampire, Deathdream & Lemora: A Child's Tale of teh Supernatural. The only problem that I have with showing films like Hellraiser, the Halloween film or the Friday the 13th series is the fact that they will all be edited.
I agree: Monster Fest should be a month-long deal.
Best time of the year for Horror movies. Wish that they would play more horror films thoughtout the year....maybe on Friday evening!!
And YES, Monsterfest should be all month long. Too many great horror m ovie to view!!
Have to agree with everyone else here. The entire month of October should be Monsterfest. I've been watching this for several years now and it is my favorite time to watch AMC. I even won a set of DVD's a few years ago, which was great.
WHEN DOES MONSTERFEST START IN OCTOBER ALSO COULD YOU PLEASE START IT ON OCTOBER 1 THANK YOU
Thank you AMC for doing MonsterFest once again this year.
Can't wait!
I loved the old monsterfest from a couple of years back. Where they would play the tame black and whites during the day and play the real scary stuff at night. I know they do that now, but they really focused on the classic movies.
I know why they don't do this all month.
For one the cost. They contact a production company to put together a package each year. These are the short little clips that play before commercials to let you know you're watching monsterfest. If they were to do an all month deal they would need to produce enough for 4 weeks instead of 2. It is a stunt to gain viewership. You might have noticed that ever since monsterfest started to play newer movies, that more channels have had their hand in halloween stunt programming. (disney channel, family channel,etc...)They make their money back, but new films are very very expensive.
Another is sponsership. They may get a single sponser to help with contest and what not. that sponser may only want to pay for that week before. Also some business don't want to sponser some movies. because who mainly watches horror movies. I would say guys mostly. so thats a month of target advertising towards males. So what happens if a tampon company sponsers Halloween 4: they don't sell any tampons.
Bad image. some people are horrified and turned off by halloween, and horror films. even though these films have been around since the 40's. So AMC would lose out on these people for the whole month. not good.
If AMC could jump these hurtles then they could probably show more horror movies during the month of october.
My suggestion to AMC. Weekends of terror. showcasing the best classic horror movies during the weekends of october all coming to a head at the week of Monsterfest.
where AMC shows it's regular horror programing.
Also i would like to see the entire series of Halloween, even halloween 3. they did this once, but skipped the 6th one. and end it with the halloween ressurection.
when does monster fest start for 2007???
UGH...another sucky Monsterfest! Another year of repeats, repeats, repeats! And where are the REAL monsters? Where's Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy and the Werewolf? Geez! The Monsterfest lineup probably scared them away. AMC, LISTEN TO YOUR VIEWERS AND COME UP WITH A BETTER MONSTERFEST IN 2008! I'll be waiting at Turner Classic Movies until then...they at least have some decent horror movies all day every Friday in October and a good line-up of classic horror movies on the 31st with NO repeats! I have watched Monsterfest for years...it's disappointing it gets worse every year.
Hey I'm with y'all on the horrorfest its freakin awesome and I too wish it lasted all of October. If y'all really love horror movies though you need to get dish networks high def programing. They have the monster channel 24 hours a day 365 days a year of nothing but horror movies broadcast in high def. If any of y'all have mediacom cable as i do though i think we should all e-mail them to add that channel to their programing.
Whatever happened to the classics like Frankenstein,Dracula,The Wolfman? Monsterfest used to have a good variety of classic& modern horror. I want to stay faithful to AMC Monsterfest but if someone else has a better variety of horror movies showing,I may have to watch that. What about the William Castle movies,The Tingler,House on Haunted Hill,13 Ghosts, alot of the 50's horror movies? Please mix it up.
Yes. The last Monsterfest lineup I *really * enjoyed was in 2000. I didn't sleep for days! Found a Monsterfest 2000 lineup. No comparison to today! Now this list is what I'd call classic! sigh...

i guess classic doesn't mean classic anymore. i ask this question, are the people who relish the 1930's threw i960's classic horror movies irrellevant? what i see listed for this years monsterfest is a joke ! amc has lost it's course ! i bet these people dont even get sausage and peperoni on there pizza !!! oh i know, lets get a white garlic sauce pizza with chicken or vegatables on it and watch one of the new classics on amc. give me a break !!!!! you guys have let down the people who got you where you are today, and you shamelessly market us with this new classic garbage. where is frankenstein, the mummy, the fly , the raven , killer bats , the creature from the black lagoon, their sequels. shame on you. we arenot your audience right now. are we ? we arenot generation x.we can not be so easily marketed into an image you create. remember us right now- right now !!!
What they should do is run Monstefest for 3 weeks, and do an alternation schedule based on 12-hour blocks between old and new... and for the love of all that is holy, no "let's run all the Halloweens back to back, then Friday the 13th, then Nightmare on Elm Street, and start over"
Along with bringing back some old bumpers/ads for Monsterfest.
HELLO!!!!!!!! THank you i thought i was the only that hated the new amc for GODSAKE go back to the old days and show the monsterfest 2000 which starred whoopi goldberg and linda blair i miss those days . Jared and David Gilsmer you people are awesome i really thought I was the only one that missed those old classic amc monsterfest days. Speaking of amc monsterfest 2000 do any of you two happen to have any of monsterfest 2000 and 2001 on tape? i just found two tapes of the old monsterfest2000 lineup that year. Boy are those days long gone... it doesnt have to be though.
Im not nuts lol i know i wrote this before but if anybody has any old monsterfest from the past especially 2000 i really am in love with that lineup and would like to buy it from you guys if you have it on tape or could possibly put it on laserdisk i really would like to buy it. ok if any of you have it and would like to sell it or even if you dont want to sell but if you could make a copy and put it on laserdisk that would be great to. please write back on the blog thanks
hey ryan unfortunately iam mr.lowtech so i do not have anything recorded from 2000, just films i have purchased, and no one i know will even watch them with me. it is hard being a hardcore monster freak. that is why i loved the old amc, they were my channel, now they have abandoned me! back in chicago we had creature features, and if you made it through the week alive you got some popcorn or a pizza from salgados and thanked god for those times. i even had freinds who would show the silent monster films you could get from ordering out of the back of comic books. they would show them on their apartment walls. those were good times! wish i could hang out with people like that again! these days you have to be real smart or you get left behind like amc has doneto all us true monster freaks! who could be any better than boris? they may make more money than him, but boris not only played the best monster ever, he was a great actor, and i bet he got sausage and pepperoni on his pizza. i bet he would have even hung out with us monster freaks. some day some one will realize they can make money off of us again and maybe their willbe a real channel for us molnster freaks to watch.untill then we will have to realize we dont matter to most people. i can not be the only one who feels forgotten and longs for the greatest most harmlest entertainment. the monstermovies from the 1930's to the early 1970's. maybe some rich guy can buy the rights to creature features and get that going again! that ryan would truly be an awsome man!!! truly!!! anyone listening??????? for now we must struggle on. we must watch our movies. purchase our movies. we most not fadeaway. if we do their may come a day when no one knows who boris is. that day would bea travesty! amc has forgotten boris this year!!! shame on them. how much longer till mainstream america the world misses the great boris and all his terrific films that portray the heart of a tortured monster!! i think all us monsterfreaks can relate to that. come out letyour voices be heard. should you not protestthey wont know we are here andit will hasten the passing of true monsterfreaks every where from coast to coast. stand up monster freaks and be counted, let vyour voices be heard. real monsters, real pizza, real life!!!! we do exsist remember us- remember us now!!!!
I hope you really show the classics, the werewolf, Lon Chaney, Frankenstein, Boris Karloff, Dracula, Bela Lugosi, KingKong, etc, you really played the Halloween 1s and 23,etc over and over. Show the classics, clasics, etc the best yrs. of monsterfeest , was in the early yrs. come on go back to the old days!!!
thank you dave for stepping forward. you are a monster freak!!! i know there are more of us out there. will the ones out there now step forward? let your voices be heard. amc- we want the real monsterfest back.so dave, jared, ryan, myself and a host of others can relish insome of the best cinema ever. for everyone of us that comes forward there are others waiting in the dark. please step forward we have not completely lost our past as of yet!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Dave thanks for getting back to me and yes hopefully if we keep posting these comments and write to them constantly they will get the hint. Its really ashame if you go back a couple of years ago Amc was untouchable especially around this time of year with halloween and now its another channel you can just flip through . AMC used to stand for american movie classics. take those horror classics out of the vault and show them and personally go back to the old amc for everthing!!!!!!!!!!
To tell you the truth guys i personally think they either lost the rightsto the old horror movies or just believe people wont watch them, and if they didnt lose the rights and wont want to show them because they are afraid "young viewers" wont like them well excuse me for typing this but screw em i want the old horror movies back, i happen to be a youngster myself well not that young lol and I enjoy a good old black and white movie with vincent price,Lon Chaney Sr,LonChaney,Claude Rains,BorisKarloff,Bela Lugosi,Peter Lorre, Dwight Frye any day then watch scream 3 and pinata survival island if they want to call that garbage a movie
Actually i am 20 years old i personally hate these new horror movies because everything is all about gore, they never make a good original horror movie anymore where for once we can use our brains and try to find the missing pieces to a movie to solve it , but then again hollywood only wants to make a quick buck so lets just keep remaking classics and destroying them. I grew up on the old horror movies and the hammer films and the silent horror films personally i think amc should hire me trust me i would do justice and i believe i would make alot of viewers happy in the end after they saw the the lineup i would put up. Until then PLEASE AMC listen to your viewers bring back the movies we love
See guys people nowadays lack IMAGINATION which is why they probably arent showing these horror movies cause they feel alot of viewers would think the old horror movies are boring and cant hold a candle to these new horror movies umm WRONG! these new movies cant hold a candle to the old ones but its not like it would matter amc probably doesnt even read them. Todd from amc horror department if you read these messages trust me you seem awesome but try pulling strings and get back the old horror movies for all of us will YAH!? thanks
hey ryan, for a 20 year old you have a lot of good sense when it comes to people trying to feed us a lot of crap, and what i like about the positions you have stated in your comments is the factv your not going to take it lying down. good for you!!! there are less and less independent thinking people inthis generation year afteryear. do not be a follower be an independent!!! i am dissapointed that more of yhe old boys have not responded. should more not respond ryan , myself, and a few others will be seen as a small remnant that amc will have to cater to. they will not care. please! old timers step up! let amc hear your voice!
AMC monsterfest has gone way down hill ever since they started showing these new schlock horror movies, full of gore, instead of the classic monster movies, that I enjoy. Bring back Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy and Godzilla. NO more Halloween IV, V, and VI okay???????
alright jd!!!!! amc you must be getting the sense that their is something amiss with monster fest this year. the true monster freaks have hurt feelings about you abandoning us. you can admit you were wrong for cheating on us with the crap you are broadcasting this year. we are most likely to forgive you this time if you repent from this type of behavior. should you persist in your corruption of classic horror however, there may be no forgiveness next time. oh by the way, isnt their a movie station out of georgia we true monster freaks could watch next year?
In the poll, you forgot to add Dracula (1979) starring Frank Langella.
I also liked the Draculas that were in the tv series "Cliffhangers" and in the film, Fright Night (1985).
Bela Lugosi is the scariest and most charismatic Dracula especially with those dark piercing eyes. The part where he is over Miss Lucy's bed getting ready to bite her, and it shows the teeth and the look on his face, and the part where the girl is selling the flowers, and the creepy look that he gives her scares me to this day. I still have nightmares about that scence but the Universal Monster Movies were my favs. I wish that AMC had those on Monsterfest like the Mummy, The creature, The Wolfman, Frankenstein, and Dracula. Those were the best movies, real Classics that will live forever.
DAVE I HAVEN BEEN A GODZILLA FAN FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND I WAS HOPEING THAT THE SCIFI CHANNEL WAS GOING TO SHOW SOME MORE GODZILLA MOVIES AGAIN I MISS WATCHING THEM SO IF YOU CAN TELL ME WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO START SHOWING THEM AGAIN PLEASE LET ME KNOW
I truely think you guys out do yourselves when it comes to holloween and monster fest. My question to you at amc is who has the best holloween mind.because when it comes to monster fest i breakout the popcorn and sit back for 10 days,of the best that amc can give me. i have been watching for 7 years and will continue to watch, nothing is to scary or gorry.keep it coming amc
Monsterfest USED to be good. I waited all year for it. Now it SUCKS. Just repeats of lousy sequals I didn't want to see in the first place. Where is Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, Godzilla, and King Kong? That's what I want to see. This monsterfest has nothing I want to see. I won't even watch.
I too am sick of all these reruns of the same Halloween movies playing over and over again. C'mon AMC have some more variety. I want the classic monster/horror films to come back. I am a huge giant monster movie fan. My favorite memory of Monsterfest was the "Attack of the 50ft Monster Mania!" That Monsterfest was awesome! I think next year AMC should show an even amount of both old and newer classic horror films. It would be a happy medium for us fans.
let me start with accolades to jd,allen, and dawn. props to you guys for shsring your opinnions with amc. allen as far as where to see godzilla movies? i dont know, i wish i did because they also are among my favorites. people like us are becoming like dinosoars, and we know they became extinct. i urge you all to keep fighting, sharing your opinnions, never giving up who you are. true monster freaks!!! their are others i assume who are plants placed here by amc telling amc what a great job they are doing.dont buy into it ! please keep stating your oppinons and get ready for a un classic monster fest. it kicks off today, you may have to check the listings at other stations if you do not want to be coralled into thinking this is what monster fest should be. right now amc caters to a new and different crowd. they have forgotten the true monster fraks!!!! shame on them!!! trading classic for gore!!!
i think danielle is a very fair minded person. i probably would not be that gracious. please listen to that advice amc. at least us real monster freaks would get something out of monster fest other than being forgotten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happened to Frank Langella's Dracula 1979? Even though Lawrence Olivier was campy, it was still a good solid Drac film. Slaughter of Vampires 1962 should even make the list.
marie, im sorry. the disco drac was horrible, the movie was even worse. there is no comparison to bela or the original dracula. this poll should not even
exist, because hands down nothing can compare with the original dracula. the other movies, like the one you mentioned are there for our entertainment, and we should enjoy as such. i will give you this frank is much better looking than me , however most people are. maybe his looks have thrown you of from his acting ability.
I'd rank "The Horror of Dracula" ('58; Christopher Lee) and "Dracula" ('79; Frank Langella) above these listed.
neil, did marie put you up to this? christopher lee can be pretty darn entertaining, but the disco drac is just plain awfull. i think you should watch the original dracula with a sausage and peperoni pizza. this could possibly help clear up your state of mind. in fact watch it twice and call me in the morning.
Hi,
I wish you guys would play scary movies more often. I was wondering if you guys could email me a newsletter or something of the amc schedules every month.
Thanks
Halloween and Hellraiser rock my socks off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think some of the recent comments must be coming from some one with multiple personalities. i know amc, maybe you could show sybil some time soon. i think some of your veiwers would really enjoy that film. it might be theraputic. hope i spelled that right, not much of an education , tou know.
I believe that the most classic Dracula is Nosferatu. F.W. Murnau's interpetation of Bram Stoker's Dracula is shown very well. It may be a silent film but I think its one of the best I have seen.
No one mentioned Leslie Neilsen playing Dracula in "Dead and Loving It"-not really scary but definitely a good Dracula flick to go with the list!
Do you people realize that this particular blog is about Dracula? or other related vampires?
yes pj, but do you realize their is only one vampire movie that is a true classic? that movie stars bela lugosi as count dracula. have you ever seen it. it is the movie all others are compared to. this whole blog about who is the best dracula is stupid, because any one with any common sense knows there is no comparison to bela in dracula. should i really wish to debate what movie was even a close second, i would agree with lacy. nosferatu is definitely a classic and an awsome one at that. this is also where a bunch of us chose to complain about the lack of true classics on amc this year. should you have more than a one line opinion you should share it with us. my hunch is your not truly a monster freak and you shared all the brilliance you nhave with us. thank you we appreciate it. now go back to your milk and cookies before grandma puts you to bed. good night, dont let the vampires bite!!!!
There was also a version of Dracula that was filmed in Romania. It updated the Dracula story to the modern age, but left the plot intact. I forget the name.
And then there's Barnabas Collins....
There are classics from Nosferatu all the way through Saw. Love them all, but the sequels are rarely as good as the original. So Halloween 1, Friday the 13th I, Nightmare 1, Scream 1 are all fine. And I miss ELVIRA.
I know that I'm coming into this blog kinda late, but I totally agree with the majority of my fellow monster fans...this Monsterfest totally sucks! Hey AMC, what happened to y'all? You're call letters are "American Movie Classics" Hmm...I believe the word is "classics". Now, don't get me wrong, I love the "Halloween" franchise, but at this point, Halloween 4, 5 and Curse of M M are not classic.
Where are the Universal monsters? Where is the big G (Godzilla) and King Kong? Where are the Hammer movies?
Hey AMC, really surprise us and show the silent, German b/w films, like "Dr. Caligari", "Nosferatu", "Faust", "Metropolis" and "Waxworks". Oh yeah, how about some of the great 50's sci-fi/horror like "Them!", "The Thing From Another World", "Forbidden Planet", "It Came From Outer Space", "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms"?
Do I sound bitter AMC? Well, I am! True horror fans know that this years crop of movies suck harder than a gay man at a bathhouse! (sorry if I offended anybody with that last line, but I feel offended by the crap (that's right crap, not crop) of movies I'm being forced to watch this year).
"Halloween" "Hellraiser" and "The Exorcist" I'm cool with, because they are legit classics.
And how about some of the great Roger Cormen/Vincent Price films? Where are the Lon Chaney films?
You can do better AMC, I know you can because you have in years past!
As for the Dracula posts, for me personally, the best Dracula is still Bela Lugosi, with Christopher Lee a close second and Frank Langella third.
Do right by us horror fans AMC, because we're watching your channel for now, but we're also losing our faith and patience with you.
C'mon fellow horror fans, even if we disagree aobut our favorite genre, we can all agree that we're getting robbed by this years Monsterfest.
Thank god for Dvd! Peace!!!!
bradley, god love you man!!! a man with a spine and an opinnion to share. whats best, your not afraid to tell it like it is. i am with you on just about everything except for the disco drac frank langella. i can stand with you though because you are so right on everything you said. where are the other bradley's! lets hear from you guys! give amc an earful for the shame they have cast on us true monster freaks this year. they are not worthy of our loyalty next year if there are not huge changes to monster fest. bradley you were not late. you were right on time. sincere thanks for stepping up. you are a true monster freak!
I get tired of the same old horror movies that play out not once a day, but twice. Please!
Of all the horror flicks out there, you keep using Michael Meyer and all 20 of them. Please, use your imagination and try showing "The Hunger," Frank Langella as Dracula, the director's cut of "The Exorcist," the film about the making of Nosferatu with Willem Defoe and John Malkovitch ...
The programming for this Monsterfest is just awful. Who in the heck is in charge of this mess? They should be dismissed immediately. Please give us some real horror classics. With the exception of a few such as Psycho, Halloween and The Exorcist this stuff is garbage.
I understand you've got bills to pay and want to run as many commercials as possible, but you are interrupting movies in key moments (Psycho) and you let movie messes like that "Pinata Island" thing run rampant. We can see Jaime Presley a lot more naked elsewhere, so what's the point? Also, would it kill you guys to show something letterboxed every now and again? How about special commercial free letterboxed screenings some times? Pan and scan really hurts the effect certain movies (horror movies included) can have. A greater sampling of classic horror would also be appreciated (classic Universal, Hammer, Maria Bava). Hellraiser umpteen is not classic, it's just branding - and not too clever.
SEE AMC ARE YOU READING THESE???????? we want MONSTERFEST BACK like it was in the old days!!!!!!!!!! dust off frankenstein, dracula, invisible man and the rest of the gang and air em!!!!!!!
amc, there seems to be no reply to your disgrunteled veiwers. you are in jeporady of losing us. do we matter to you? amc, there seems to be no apologies for the the injustice to your loyal veiwers for this years monster fest. shall we believe that this years programing is the direction of your future agenda with monster fest? please be kind with our affections, if you plan to continue growing in another direction, then please let us go. we were led to beleive that you cared for us monster freaks. now our relationship only causes pain. should you not respond to us, i think i am going to have to break it off between us! you are not comitted enough.
I would completely agree that Dracula (Bela's version) is THEE classic, and of course Nosferatu! However, I did LOVE Christopher Lee's verson of Dracula...he barely had a spoken line in any of those Hammer films, and yet...he spoke just volumes with his expressions.
The only scene worth watching in Dracula 2000 is the one where he and the young lady are rolling on the ceiling...the eroticness of it I suppose but definetly NOT classic horror.
O I nearly forgot Jack Palance..his verson was 1st rate too!
AND OMG, yeah that Pinata movie! is terrible. It's a second or maybe third rate slasher film, and in no way, shape or form is it classic Horror. Horrible yes, Horror..no.
It seems nowadays, "horror" movies relay too heavily on special effects and computer generated images, and have no real substance, and barely a storyline.
Ever watch any of those "Sci Fi Originals"? Paalease.
To me, the thing that made "Night of the Living Dead" a true classic was it's substance..it conveyed the characters emotions perfectly. There was very little gore (comparatively) and forget "special" effects. It didn't need it.
What happened to Monsterfest??? Scream III? Are you kidding me. Was it too expensive to get the licensing for the original one? I don't mind new (When I say "new", I mean movies from 1970-1985) and old movies mixed together, but showing "The Frighteners" or "The Fury" 19 times in 3 days is retarded. I can understand if the original Halloween is shown a few times during monsterfest, but no others should get such treatment. Whoever made this schedule and picked the three movies to show over and over should be terminated. Not to sound like an old person, but I want to see movie classics on AMC. Halloween 5, Scream III, The Fighteners are not classics. Army of Darkness is considered a new movie, but I'd rather watch that then a crappy Michael Myers sequel from 2000. I'm so disgusted, I might start watching Dancing with the Stars.
amc, their are a lot of unhappy monster fraks! we still have not heard from you. these people want people fired over this debacle. ihope monster freaks everywhere continue to step up. keep sharing your opinnions with amc. i cant believe this is good press for you amc. dont you think you should be concerned about damage control, are you content to just allow this frustration to build without a promise to do better in the future. i am concerned with discernment and leadership for you guys. you should be concerned as well!
Hey what happened to AMC's Monstrfest this year it is soooo bad.The movies your playing just plainly stink. What happened to the oldies-Bela as Dracula and Christopher lee,Lon chaney,And lets not forget Vincent Price, come on.I take vacation from work every year just to sit home and watch Monsterfest from day 1 till the end.I should have saved my vacation. But to me monsterfest is very important to me to watch(USUALLY)I am a big halloween fan and a huge monsterfest fan but i am very dissapointed this year with the lineup of movies you guys who came up with this should be canned for making this year so sucky. And not for nothing i have been telling everyone at my work about this monsterfest for weks before and they were excited now i feel like a jackass for tuning them into such a lame show.
yes, david gilsmer I have seen the Bela Lugosi Dracula-in fact I own a copy. I just turned fifty and not only have I seen hundreds of horror classics, but I own many of them too. I actually classify Dracula with The Mummy with Boris Karloff, Frankenstein with Boris and The Wolf Man with Lon Chaney Jr.-and if you really want to get into some original horror classics-how about The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari-a 1920 silent movie or Maniac from 1934.
I don't think amc is doing as badly as all of you are complaining about. It's 5:00 A.M. where I live and they're showing Puppetmasters-which is actually a pretty good show. Besides if you look up classic in the dictionary it says superior or exemplary-it doesn't say anything about it being old!!
hey pj, i own them too. how bout the golem. that is another interesting film.i think it is pretty scary that someone at fifty years old has to look up classic in the dictionary to define it. where have you been? a clssic needs to have lasting merit. the films we true monster freaks are clamoring for have that. the crap they are peddling this year on monster fest does not, and most of us dont need a dictionary to figure that out! pj, monster fest is terrible this year.i am concerned that you are a plant by amc. i do not believe for one minute that a man your age had to look up the meaning of classic in the dictionary. i am in no means an educated man other than the streets of chicago, and i am in your relative age group, if i can understand classic so should you be able to. that is why for years amc has shown the movies us true monster freaks are clamoring for, because they are true classics. pj, i hate to burst your bubble amc is doing a horrible job. should you not recognize that i can only think that you are a movie buff and not a true monster freak.
I have enjoyed this years monster fest. (2007) But I would like to see more friday the 13ths. They are the movies I was raised on, and wish you would put more of them in your line up. Dont get me wrong, I am a horror movie freak. But a bit more Jason and a bit less Micheal would be cool!!
every corporation in america should take notice of the end result of reletless marketing, branding, and merchandising. oh, i think they have. they get rich. we get mindless garbage. then we come back for more. please lets think for our selves. amc please, with sugar on it, dont be horrible any more, be horrific !!!
hey David-at least I own a dictionary, you probably don't have a book in your entire house. You are such a bully-it's really too bad you can't pull down your pants and moon us all. What are you doing for fun this Halloween anyway-stealing candy bags from the little kids?
amc what happened to the monster fest.drac, wolfman, frankinstein movies for halloween. These movies you are showing are not classics.
hey pj, i think you have me all wrong. i am actually staying home from bible study to pass out candy to the children in my neighberhood. there are plenty of books in my house. most of them belong to my wife. she borrowed me her dictionary, and i looked up the meaning of classic. i will give you websters deffinition, it will help edify you. a work of literature or art of highest standard AND LASTING MERIT: classics, the literature of ancient greece and rome. as far as being a bully, i am probably just more thick skinned than most. most likely i would be the guy that would step in if someone were to try and accost you. being self assured i dont feel a need to bully anyone. i express my oppinions rather stongly being an extremely passionate man. this is still america and i encourage you and champion you to do likewise even though i would totally disagree with probably most of your oppinions. people have died for this right, it is what makes america great!!!! i for the most part have an extremely muscular behind, and sense i dont expose myself, it would not be worth seeing. since i am such a conservative i dont see the liberal end amc has taken in streching things that are marginal at best into classics, and it is my right to share my oppinon inthis country while i still can. i take my chritianity and any criticism very seriously. i dont really care what you think of me thats your right and i hope no one ever takes that away from you. should i have affended you i hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. failing to forgive someone only leaves the harmed in bondage. i am sorry if i hurt your feelings. please remember this is a place where we are sharing our oppinions, some of us are very passionate about what we feel we could be losing. when you post a comment, lots of people may dissagree or dis believe as i did with you. i found looking up the word classic extreme for something so reasonbly understandable. i guess that is my mistake. the world is a big place and i am glad you shared your oppinion. i wish more people would. pj, have a very happy halloween, and may god bless you and your family. please do not take this as any change of my oppinions, i am sure you understand i still think this years monster fest is an absolute abomination!!!
jackie, you are so right. whatwill become of all us true monsterfreaks. thank you for sharing your oppinion. we are probably going to need a new channel.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!! listen up people i asked a few on here a while back if anybody had monsterfest 2000 on tape but most of the people didnt, if any of you have it on tape I would really like to purchase it from you guys, if you dont want to sell your only copy thats fine if you have it, could you possibly burn it on a disk I would of course pay you for it, ok thanks for reading this and if you do happen to have it please write back thanks again
okay David-here is my final opinion for this Halloween-try watching Little Orphan Annie for 24 hours straight and then you might actually enjoy the Monsterfest line-up. And another thing-not only do I enjoy and try to appreciate every monster movie that comes along but I read monster books also-the Stephen King's and the Clive Barker's, etc. I've always been a monster fan and have been since I was a little GIRL. Happy Halloween David to you and your wife.
hey pj, i am sure that if i watched little orphan annie for 24 hours i probably would end up even watching friends. doesent reading all those books ruin the movie for you. i tell my wife the same thing, but she doesnt listen and will devour a book in a day or tu. she is real smart. books hurt my mind. you have to think to hard. happy halloween!!!!
well, monsterfest will be over soon. i think that is probably a good thing. the ttrue monster freaks will most likely have to watch their own movie collection from now on. well to coin a phrase from my wifes dead bohemian aunt. " things change- damn light". it doesent make sense, i know ! neither did this years monster fest. we might be witnesing a changing of the guard. battle on, battle on true monster freaks ! my father always told me " dont worry about it, in a hundred years from now none of this will matter !
hey David-actually the books make the movies better because you understand more of what the actor is thinking and feeling. Especially books and movies like The Stand, Tommyknockers, The Amityville Horror, The Exorcist, etc. I've read these and plenty more. But I must confess that the book and movie of It were both pretty good. And no they don't ruin the movies at all, cause a lot of the time the movie doesn't always follow the same story line as the book-well, in general it does, but their are many minor variations. And, come on, we usually all know the ending to these shows-somebody gets killed most of the time-that's not really a surprise ending. And yes-Monsterfest is over, but we have our DVD's and right now amc is showing an Alfred Hitchcock mystery-so at least it's something.
hey pj, i have areally hard time concentrating on a book to be able to finish it. i read my bible mostly, in short chapters, and then i think about it. sounds like should you be able to concentrate on a book you get a whole different view of things. more complete. i can relate to the monster movies, they hold my attention, where as other movies dont, or i cant. my mind always is moving, in fact when i go to sleep it is like going to the movies, full color and everything, i see about three a night. well i hope you enjoy your books, and may jesus be with you!
nobody cares probably, but i do. my wife has a dvr or tivo for those who dont know what a dvr is. i taped a bunch of real classic horror films off of tcm and i have my own little monster fest going on at my house. next year i wont even bother with amc frustrsting me. i will watch my own movies and tape from other stations when they air something worth recording. i know nobody really cares, but i do.
Once again I'd like to thank AMC TV for Monsterfest, I enjoy it every year. This year though I was disappointed at the omission of the classic 30's version of Dracula ,Frankenstein and The Mummy.
And please, show Dracula without the new music. The addition of new music is not an improvement . It ruins the whole mood. Bring back Swan Lake, the movie was perfect. Why change it ?
i have a question for the monster fest can you tell me when the scifi channel is going to show godzilla movies again like the did on wed and sat nights i miss watching them and i have been a fan of other movies like earth vs the flying saures and them please email me and let me know when scifi and the amctv plane to show them again thank you allen
You forgot Frank Langella in the 1979 Dracula!! He was by the far the best and sexiest Dracula! He could bite me anytime!!
