11 Amazing Hollywood Vampires

Kate Gotta have your daily vampire fix? Entertainment Weekly's got some tasty blurbs along with a great photo gallery of what they believe are the 11 Great Hollywood Vampires. Here's the list with my comments:

Kate Beckinsdale - Underworld and Underworld Evolution - (Perfect pick.)

Salma Hayek - From Dusk 'Til Dawn (She's beautiful, but in too small of a role to matter.)

William Marshall - Blacula (Kitschy pop culture fun.)

Kiefer Sutherland - The Lost Boys (You'll kill me, but I didn't think the movie was all that. I don't think vampires should ride motorcycles.)

Count Von Count - Sesame Street (Cute, but um, Sesame Street wasn't even taped in Hollywood.)

Jonathan Frid - Dark Shadows (Yep, way ahead of its time).

Catharine Deneuve - The Hunger (Can't argue: when I first met Deneuve in an Broadway antique store, she took my breath away.  She can have my blood any time.)

Tom Cruise - Interview With a Vampire (So scary, I bought a fake autographed pic of Cruise and Pitt on Ebay to remember the chills.)

David Boreanaz - Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Nope, you can't sell me on this one. There are too many other cool vampires.)

Max Schreck - Nosferatu (Oh, yeah: scariest vampire of all time with those fingers and those ears. Not Hollywood, though.)

Gary Oldman - Bram Stoker's Dracula (Very good, but not quite creepy enough for me. Coppola's fault, not Oldham's.)

Hmm, what's missing? Oh, right...WHERE THE HELL ARE BELA LUGOSI AND CHRISTOPHER LEE? WITHOUT THESE CLASSICS, THE LIST'S SOMEWHAT OF A SHAM!

Uncle Harold...(just a Freudian slip from reading Pt's post. ;) ) Seriously, Harold Goldberg, appreciated all your comments about each of the top 11. Wouldn't TOP 13 be more biting and then you could also get in Lee & Lugosi? Strike Count Von Count. You might as well substitute him with George Hamilton of Love At First Bite.

Look who the source is, you guys *eyeroll*. It's just plain stupid to leave off Lugosi and Lee--that's who people THINK of when they think of vampires. Jeez. I subscribe to EW and I like their tv coverage and some of their cover stories, but their movie reviews are atrocious and their stupid lists are pointless.

Though I admit a special place in my heart for the poor Count (though he shouldn't be on this list). I'm sure a lot of you were like me and saw him and his cuddly monster pals on Sesame Street as your first non-scary "horror". I was terrified of vampires and closet monsters but oh how I loved that Count and Oscar and all the silly monsters with the horns. They were my favorites, along Snuffaluffagus, whatever he was.

One of my favorite nonscary horror characters was Snoopy doing an impersonation of Dracula (Lugosi?). However, I can't recall if I just saw it in a strip or a special. The PEANUTS Great Pumpkin costumes were tame, but also in that nonscary horror category. Court, that makes me wonder about the nonscary horror exposure of other readers here. Maybe someone might post that as a theme. Monsters, Inc. would definitely be one for the kids born around 2000.

I guess if it's a "best of" Hollywood vampires, then I guess I would have to say that I really thought Luke Goss' Vampire/Reaper character from Blade II was badass.

Say what you will about the Blade series, but I enjoyed the hell out of Blade II. Guillermo del Toro is just - he's just an awesome director. Period! Definitely in my top 5 directors of all-time along with John Carpenter, George A. Romero, James Whale, and Tim Burton.

I agree, a list without Lugosi and Lee is just a complete sham. Then again, as Court pointed out, look who the source is!

I think it was probably a comic strip with Snoopy imitating Lugosi...

I like, nay, love Richard Roxburgh as Dracula. Probably because he was avoiding the tired stereotype while basing his performance on Lugosi.
