Shivers! Faces Of Death Becomes A Movie
Secretly watching a snuff film on VHS was about as punk as you could get in the 80s. And there's still talk of them today. Heck, these gross and lurid films of death even got a plug in Joe Hill's Heart-Shaped Box. Today on Rotten Tomatoes, there's word that the Faces of Death series (Banned in 46 countries!) will now somehow become a feature film with a ton of horror a la Saw thrown in.
Says RT, quoting producer Rick Bennatar, who's also doing Lost Boys 2, "We've got a story, we've got a director, we've got a
writer, J.T. Petty,
who did a couple of indie films," said Benattar. "He's coming in and he wrote a
script. We're sort of taking a look at in the world of Saw and Hostel, who are
the people who actually go watch these movies? So we've tied that in with [the
new] Faces of Death."
So here's my question, Is this too raw of a subject even for fiction, or are you psyched to see what they do with the movie?

This has still got me a bit confused. The original was a movie that was compeletly faked except for the last shot. I met John Alan Schwartz when he was doing a lecture tour in the 90's while I was still in college. He gave a lecture and showed clips from Faces of Death and asked us in the audience which ones were real and which ones fake. Every scene he showed were faked except for the very last scene and get this. They were actually filming a wedding at the time when this body washed up on shore, they hurried up ran out to the beach and shot the body before the cops got there. So you see, it originally was a scripted movie so if they are going to remake it what are they thinking. I hate to dispell the myth behind this film but the original was a marketing ploy that worked! John was unable to talk about the other films in the series since after the first one he sold the rights so as far as the validity of the other films I can't say. So to answer your question I don't see any harm in doing a remake of this, we probably see worse on those shows like "Animals Gone Wild" or "Worlds Worst Sports Fans" or what not. So I say bring it on, I will watch it.
Oh that one is a freaking scary. I want to see that movie
Now THIS is a movie I'm afraid to watch, fake or not....
Why?
I still prefer that Conan O'Brien parody with Muppets getting killed...who knew Kermit was suicidal?
