Resident Evil: Extinction

Residentevil3posterSo, the subways in New York have replaced all of their Skinwalkers posters with these Resident Evil: Extinction posters.

It's kind of interesting, I suppose that they keep cranking these out.  By all accounts, it's kind of an unloved series.  The idea is nice, and the game series they're based on is unparalleled delight.

Though there's a strong argument for the Final Fantasy series, the Resident Evil games are one of the best examples for video games replacing movies as our greatest art form.  It's art you can interact with.  A story that engages you physically and emotionally and can scare you as much as any shadow whisper or cat screech.

The movies have been...weak, but Milla Jovovich has audience goodwill in spades.  Has she been in a good movie ever?  No.  Is she everyone's favorite?  Yes.  Why?  I like her.  I can't tell you why.  I'll see a movie just because she's in it.  Throw in zombies and a post-apocalyptic Vegas?  I'm there.  Will it be terrible?  Probably!  Will I care?  Probably not.  Why?  Milla.  And no jury will convict me of bad taste, since they're all her fans as well.  I defy any of you to say truthfully you do not love her.

Hahaha - Man, that is so true. The previous RE films have been god awful and honestly, the third one looks bad as well, but... as you said, we love Milla. So, yeah, I'll see Extinction just for Milla. By the way, am I the only one who thinks the zombies in the RE films are the worst ever? They look nothing like the living dead from the games and for me that's almost 50% of why these films blow donkeys.

This is all so true. It's all about Milla. I even made it through all of Ultra Violet just because she was in it. I have enjoyed the RE films so far, not because they're good, but because of Milla & the RE franchise. They still still make for a fun viewing, as long as your expectations aren't soaring.

I don't think the zombies look the worst ever, but I do agree that they're nothing like in the games.

Check out the trailer for Resident Evil 5 here: http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/760/760880/vids_1.html

I have a confession to make. I have a crush on Milla. I have for years, and honestly I love her in movies. I haven't seen Ultraviolet yet, I've been too afraid that it will make me not like Milla, but another confession, I like the RE movies. I don't know why, but they are good fun mindless entertainment and I get to see Milla being kick ass.

And Todd no good movies from Milla? What about "The Fifth Element" I think that was a great movie, but I could be alone in that.

To say that these movies are "weak" is being kind.

And I guess I'm in the minority here, because I actually don't like Milla. I just see her as "the chick that ruined the RE movies." Her character doesn't exist in the video games. "Alice" is practically super-human, making it almost impossible for any enemy to have a real shot at killing her (therefore ruining any sense of suspense that these movies might have had). All of that adds up to one huge annoyance. In my opinion, of course. :)

Fifth Element was the one on my mind right before I committed to damning her filmography. For a moment, I thought, "Wait, Fifth Element was good," and then I remembered the last forty-five minutes. I love so many images and scenes from that movie, but the moment Chris Tucker starts acting like Scrappy Doo, it maddens

Thanks for posting the trailer, CampBlood. It's sort of well cut and makes it look...not terrible (but so did the trailer for Ultraviolet)

Leeloo forever!

i've only seen one of milla's movies, the crusader, where she plays joan of arc, and which was frakes-ing godawful, but i liked it because i like her. and joan of arc. her. also, i once bought a blue dress from this store just because she was wearing it in their catalogue. it didn't even look good on me.

anyway, + zombies = oh, yes
