Quote of the Week: Rob Zombie
Q: How do you feel about big budget remakes of Dawn of the Dead and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre?
Zombie: I feel it's the worst thing any filmmaker can do. I actually got a call from my agent and they asked me if I wanted to be involved with the remake of Chain Saw. I said no f-ing way! Those movies are perfect- you're only going to make yourself look like an a--hole by remaking them. Go remake something that's a piece of sh-- and make it good. Like with my movie (House of 1000 Corpses) I have elements of Chain Saw in it because I love that movie so much, but I wouldn't dare want to "remake" it. It's like a band trying to be another band. You can sound like The Beatles, but you can't be The Beatles.
- Rob Zombie, from an interview with Are You Going magazine in 2002.
Thanks to Stacie Ponder of Final Girl fame for pointing this out. Read her interview with Zombie here.

But he has no qualms remaking Halloween? Come on.
its funny reading this. its funny that he would make that statement and then a few years later doing exactly what he said he wouldnt do. when you come down to it, he loves the money. look at a time line of how zombie has changed from when he started in the late 80s to today. i dont have much expectations for this remake. in july they did re shoots to add six new deaths, more violent kill scenes, and added on to the gore level. the original halloween had a body count of five, and not much violence or gore. theyre adding more deaths than there originally was plus the deaths already in the movie.
Uh, yeah. Up until about 3 days ago, I was totally behind Rob Zombie and then came the Rue-Morgue interview and really all I can say is... I believe I will enjoy the movie, but I have lost a lot of respect for Rob Zombie. If you haven't read the interview, I suggest you pick up the latest issue of Rue-Morgue... if you're a Halloween fan, prepare yourself for a little anger. Guaranteed!
What's up with this guy? He claims to be such a genre fan and then in the blink of an eye he starts tearing apart (i.e. how many story holes are in the original Halloween) classic films. I know he's had it rough with critics about the "re-imagining" of Halloween, but there's no need to be such an a--hole. Is there? Hey, Rob! If you can't take a little criticism, then maybe you shouldn't be making films or recording albums for that matter (that last album was awful).
i agree, the last album was horrible. it wasnt even horror related. hey malice, is theyre any chance that article is on the internet.
Strange comment considering Mr. Zombie did a cover of "Brick House" not all that long ago...
yeah cary and that cover sucked too. ive been a fan of rob ever since white zombie but it seems now im losing more and more respect for him. i dont even listen to his music anymore. i still like the old white zombie cds but as far as his new stuff, its horrible. i even read an interview with him and he said he deletes his fan mail saying "he doesnt have enough time to read it" come on rob, treat your fans better than that.
Afraid not, Joe. It's exclusive to the magazine. However, I'm sure if you check around the internet for recent Halloween related interviews with Rob Zombie, I'm sure you'll find him pissing and moaning about horror fans (Halloween purists especially).
When will people who make these kinds of films realize that this is bigger than them? You always hear them say "I'll never do another Halloween film after this" or "Why do another sequel? I've already had my share and I'm done with Freddy Krueger". Ok, for one, obviously you are no Spielberg or else you wouldn't be doing a so called "re-imagining" of Halloween. So get off your high horse and quit acting like you're the next Ridley Scott. Secondly, if you hate Halloween (and obviously the Halloween fans as well) then what explaination could you give us as to why you did this film to begin with? Other than money, of course.
How many of you out there hated the idea of a Halloween remake, but where ok with it when you found out that Rob Zombie was doing it? I have to raise my hand here, because that was certainly the case for me. I thought this guy was one of us... so WTF happened? It's no secret that I can't stand Eli Roth, so now you can throw Zombie in that boat with him.
Turning on the fans is unforgivable. You brought this on yourself, Rob. Not us! I can understand that it's been rough for you, but you knew what you were getting into before you signed on the dotted line. You are a great filmmaker, but as far as FAN friendly goes... well, I'm going to steal a line from one of your quotes "be a fan, not a d*ck!".
i agree with you 100% malice.
