Ultimate Fan Quiz: Night of the Living Dead

Notld1 Night of the Living Dead fans, like sports fans, come in a broad spectrum. You have your basic, fair-weather, “oh, I love that movie” fan who couldn’t tell you the difference between Judith O’Dea and Judith Ridley if you offered him or her a hundred dollars. Then, in ever-increasing bands of intensity, you have the more serious types.

Are you a real NLD fan? Take our quiz. The person deemed the Ultimate "Living Dead" Fan will be profiled on the Monsterfest blog in a future post.

None of the below 13 questions should be all that hard for even a medium-intensity fan to handle, but there’s a ticking clock involved here. We’re looking for the FIRST fan to deliver all 13 correct answers. Are you ready? Take the jump.

1) What is the month and year on the calendar in the kitchen of the farmhouse where the protagonists hole up? (Before the current cleaned-up DVD version of the film was available, this would have been a hard question. Now it’s a giveaway!)

2) What planet is the source of the mysterious radiation that (presumably) causes the zombie plague?

3) In the working script for the film, one character survives. Which one is it? (Hint: Gender studies types would have been pleased had this part stayed as written.)

4) What was the real-life occupation of the nude ghoul?

5) What kind of tool does Karen Cooper (Kyra Schon) kill her mother with? (Please be specific!)

6) Who played the bug-eating ghoul?

7) What brand is the old radio that Ben turns on to get news from the outside?

8) What was the nickname the filmmakers used for Night of the Living Dead throughout production?

9) What is the name of the diner that figures so prominently in Ben's dining-table-deconstruction soliloquy?

10) According to the radio report Ben listens to, the zombie plague began with the slaying of a family of seven in what state?

11) Who played the ghoul that gets set completely on fire during the Molotov cocktail scene?

12) What was the nickname of the local celebrity who played the TV reporter?

13) And finally, a really easy one: On what day of the week does the action in the film begin?

Just when I was starting to get a little worried that maybe I made our ultimate Night of the Living Dead fan quiz a little harder than I should have... Just when I was starting to think that maybe I was out of touch with the realities of what people really do and don't know about this film... Just when I was starting to wonder if anyone out there cares the way I do... along comes a reader to put my worries to rest.

Congratulations, Eric. As you're probably not too surprised to learn, you got all 13 answers right, and you're our ultimate Night of the Living Dead fan.

Did Eric have to consult his DVD copy to get the answers? Did he pull them right out of his head? (I'm betting on the latter.) For the answers to this and a bunch of other Night-related questions, watch for our profile of Eric coming soon.
