It appears that Volume 32 is afflicted with an "internal server error"; so I am attempting to determine whether a new topic will be functional.
So, in honor of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, and Wilt Chamberlain (if you add 20 to Wilt's jersey number), here is volume 33.

Floor plan for Sterling Cooper offices: including booze and cigarettes
Check this floor plan of the original offices of Sterling Cooper. This fan has drawn everything right down to the location of Roger's two heart attacks! The supply closet is full of booze instead of supplies. She even put a "rejuventor" on Peggy's desk.

New Cast Member?
Recently, I've been watching several movies lately starring Michael Fassbender. For those of you who don't recognize that name just yet, you might remember him from X-Men First Class as Magneto and in Inglourious Basterds as Lt. Hicox (The British Lt. who went undercover as a German). The man also starred in Jane Erye and not so widely-known movies Hunger and Fish Tank. In everything I've seen him in, he reveals an excellent talent for acting, but also what is so striking is that I believe he has a look that I could completely see on Mad Men. I don't know if they are even looking for new stars to add to the cast or if he would even consider being on TV now that he's made it on the big screen, but I believe he would be an excellent new choice for the cast. It doesn't hurt that he's extremely attractive as well.
Forum Get Together
Who's on the Mad Men Forum right now?
Sal
I miss Sal and wish they'd bring him back. He didn't look like all the rest of the guys, he was a great dresser and so beautiful to look at. Also, I liked the understated way that Bryan Batt portrayed Sal.
Hurricane 1960 1961
With Hurricane Irene looming, I am thinking back to the early sixties hurricanes, Esther and Donna that hit the Northeast. I can remember being 9 or 10 years old and walking into the howling wind and rain with much joy. My parents were oblivious to the situation, maybe the reporting of hurricanes was so primitive back then. Just thought I would post a topic on Hurricanes if anyone had any insight into the subject, that they wished to share.
Nora Paradiso worked with January Jones on Mad Men and says "She's Lovely"!
Yes on the Benefactor episode, I worked with January Jones and she was very lovely to work with. She was kind and quiet and somewhat shy. During lunch she played in the field with her dog alone and then when we were called back on set, Jon Hamm took her by the small of her back and escorted her in. I commented to them that they looked like Barbie and Ken. So beautiful that she is. I couldn't even begin to think of Mad Men without her! She's been given some meaty roles and she has bravely handled them very well. When this came up with little Bobby, it was probably her being in character, the strong character she had to build. Well, she was terrific back then when I was on set and she is terrific now! I've gotten to really like her and what she is doing!

DONS VIEW ON THE CHANGING 60S
Second part to my question abt Don and the changing 60's
The article after season 1 referred to Don wanting no part of the changes that were occuring. Said he looked backwards instead of forwad.
I thought he was known as a forward thinking guy? A free thinker. Or was this likely referring to his true self, not the construct of Don Draper. I recall the example used was him seeing something in Peggy and hiring her, despite her being female.
DON'S AD CAMPAIGNS:SEASON 1-4
Just read article that was written after season 2 ep 1.
Much of it was about Dons resistance to the changing times(youth, technology, ads with ironic slogans...)
It said in Season 1-(in his campaigns at least)he continued to look backward instead of forward.
What about the Bell Jolie campaign? Wasnt that a Forward thinking campaign?
Lastly, did his views and ad pitches change after season 1?
Take a look at my submission, and vote for me.. if you like
Hi folks. When I heard about this contest, I had an idea that I thought was interesting, and definitely unique among the submissions I'd seen. Mad Men spends most of it's time with the Madison Avenue crew, but with Vietnam looming larger and larger, I figured I'd offer something that I think the upcoming seasons will be featuring much more - a Vietnam soldier.
So, I took out my grandpa's WWII dog tags, grabbed a pair of era-appropriate glasses, and went out to find my Vietnam jungle for a picture.
I love this show, and I think it'd be fantastic to be a part of it (in whatever small way this contest provides), so I appreciate any extra votes you might send my way :)

What We Didn't Know Did Hurt Us
Roger told Don in the hospital "I did everything they told me to do...I drank the cream and I ate the butter" to help his ulcers. He ended up with a heart attack doing what the doctors told him to do. We saw Betty place butter on Bobby's burned chin and watched while Francine smoked during her pregnancy. What other medical mishaps did you pick up on in the Mad Men re-runs that we would never see today?

Dedicated Site for "Walk On Role Applicants
I think that since so many hopeful candidates are posting on the AMC site for MM , and their pictures can't be compared unless one goes through a great deal of work, AMC should consider instead of allowing them to post on the Talk Forum that perhaps they should start a dedicated place for the entries. I already voted, but I am sure there are many others who would like to compare/contrast the images of the candidates in an easier fashion. Just a suggestion...
Who should win the Walk on Role?
I think I would be a great addition. I am a credited Actress and I love the show!! Please feel free to vote for me to win! I Thank you all for your time and consideration! ;) http://madmencastingcall.amctv.com/browse/detail/673eb0dc3d13b8d835112996a2e066ac89fc5185

AD AGENCY BILLING
In the 60's-Did these types of firms charge retainer fees? Most ad campaigns arent year long, right?(Aside from a Lucky Strike size account)
What about the time between. Was SCDP still getting paid?
But the accounts are referred to as a 'x million dollar account' Hows it work?
Could you PLEASE vote? It'll only take a second of your time.

"Pan Am" - The TV Series
It appears that ABC/Disney are making a nostalgia play for those of us who grew up in the '60s and dreamed about flying around the wold on Pan Am, the de facto US flag airline.
Aside from the probable plot lines involving one or more pilots trying to nail one or more stewardesses, and the stewardesses looking to bag a well-paid husband, what plot lines and devices do you think they'll try to steal from Mad Men?

NORA PARADISO JANIE BRYANT CHARLIE MEET!
It finally happened at the launch of Janie's new Mad Men Line at the Banana Republic at The Grove in L.A.!
Some of you may recall my story on the Forum as to how I was invited to her Birthday Party once and wasn't able to go and how disappointed I was not meeting her! She is wonderful! What a nice nice person! It felt like I had always known her! And her line is wonderful. I will post several links showing her line and the party. But, first here's the short clip with Janie!

Betty Francis (formerly Drapier)
It's funny to watch Mad Men and then listen to people's responses...clearly sexism is alive and well! It seems that January Jones' character is being poo pooed by fans because she is "awful." People clearly fail to appreciate her character, since she does behave like the perfect lady and tries to be the perfect wife in her less than perfect marriage. She was criticized by Terri Gross for "not being attentive to her childrens' needs." How telling since the show fails to highlight her day to day routine as a housewife, which is probably enough to want to wrap ones lips around a gun..not to mention that, who is taking care of her needs? While her husband gets to live his action packed life and extracurricular love life, she is at home towing the line, serving as the poster child for the pretense that Wall Streets Mad Men are trying to sell to the nation. How is her seemingly callous mothering any different than her husbands? They are both bigots, which was the sign of the times. It would be a big mistake to drop Betty Francis, since her evolution ought to matter. If this is going to turn into a James Bond-esque-capade, I for one will not watch. There is a lingering mystery about Mrs. Francis, since it is obvious she still loves her husband. What prompted her to be so sure that she wanted a divorce? Did she really stop loving her husband, as it does not seem that way. Don Drapier aka Dick Whitman seems to get away with his utter lack of integrity which is perhaps why he is such a good salesman. When he tells his first "wife" the original Mrs. Drapier, that he could tell Betty stopped loving him when she told him the truth, Anna's response is "I'm sorry she broke your heart." How convenient that he left out his notorious tom cat behavior. Why are people so condemning of Betty? how is she worse than her husband? The evolution of her character is key. The end of season four seems to depict perfectly the folly of thinking that one can just trade their spouse in for a better life. What is marriage in this society? Without a controversial character like Betty, the show will lose its complexity.

MAD MEN RULES!!
Just thought I would create a new thread so my fellow Maddicts aren't immediately hit in the face by the very objectionable thread posted by some obnoxious lunkhead from the planet Moron. I would have thought AMC would have removed it by now, but said Moron must have figured out Saturdays are slow at AMC. It appears we lovers of Mad Men will have to put up with this disgusting post for the rest of the weekend.

SNAFUBAR!
Wow, I really, really long for the good old days when Mad Men was new, and the Forum ran like a well oiled machine. We innocently asked for a few changes to this site, and now it truly is a screwed up mess. I wonder how many AMC techs it took to ruin our nice Forum.
Glad to see "The Quote Game" is still going strong!
I was never any good at it, but it is a lot of fun! I do check in from time to time.
It seems that no one can post a comment or reply right now.
I have only been able to start a topic or "like" a comment. Same thing on the Breaking Bad site.
You're not alone, antrobus and wasthere.
