Talk: Mad Men: June 2011

MAD MEN'S MAJOR THEME

A big theme is appearances vs. reality. I recently read that this goes for all of the main characters.

How would the characters of Roger and Pete fit in to this?

Shirley MacLaine Movie-answer to LH's Question.

Hi LH. for some bizarre reason, they do not like any replys to your question about the Shirley Maclaine movie.

Anyway, I believe the answer is What A Way To Go. Paul Newman, Robert Mitchum, Dick Van Dyke and Gene Kelly played her husbands. Wasn't Dean Martin in it also? Can't remember who played her shrink.

MadMen Season 5 Walk-On Role

OMG! Has anyone seen the Online Auction for the season 5 walk-on role? It's posted on Ebay http://is.gd/pplaauctions The bidding goes from June 7-17 and you can bring a friend to be with you on set! I sure hope I get it :)

NOT ABLE TO VOTE FOR MY FAVORITE EP!

In my opinion, "MEDITATIONS IN AN EMERGENCY" was the best single episode in the saga. But it wasn't on the list of eps that one could vote on!

This was far superior to many of the episodes listed and presents a mystery that I cannot understand.

Any thoughts? Anyone agree? Disagree? Awake??

Mad Men inspired collage

While I wait impatiently for Season 5, I'm watching at least one episode per night from my DVD collection of Seasons 1-4. Rather than checking the MM blogs obsessively every day like I do when the show is airing, I'm finding other ways to use the internet to pay homage to the best show ever. Thought you might enjoy my off the cuff rendition to a Mad Men inspired collage: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=32673049.

Dining at Four Seasons

Going to go to the Four Seasons, but found out there are two rooms, the Grill and the Pool rooms. Where would/did Pete go? What's the difference between the two?

I bought Don Draper's suit at auction!

So, I recently bought a suit at auction that was worn by Jon Hamm as Don Draper in two episodes of Mad Men. He wears it in Season 1 Episode 111: Indian Summer ( the Relaxicisor meeting ) and Season 4 Episode 408: A Summer Man ( worn to the tune 'Satisfaction'). I can't tell you how cool it is to own a piece of the show that I love so much, and to own such an iconic thing from that show. Having owned this suit, I've learned two things: Jon Hamm is bigger than me and much, much more handsome. Ah well, I've got his suit and can wear it whenever I want to feel that Mad Men mojo. Funny enough, in the same auction, the ladies' dresses didn't sell. Surprising. I'll post a photo soon.

Incredible Technical Problems!

I don't know if this is going to work, but I posted something on another thread about my continual technical problems here, and noticed a thread about that very subject. Of course when I tried to post there - nothing. Anyway, IMO this site is too full of glitches and too time consuming to try and work around them. For weeks now I kept having to reregister my email and screen name and could never get on. Today, I'm on and it seems a miracle! However, just can't continue to spend all the time reregistering, NOT seeing my posts appear (or if they appear, it's sporadic), and all the rest. Tired of being confused with some poster calling themselves WindsofMarch (my profile was even under that name - AGAIN!). This is not fun site, it's a total drag at this point.

And now comes word Jon Hamm thinks MM should end after this season. In an interview with the BBC he stated his feelings. I have already lost interest (or it's waning considerably) and frankly, this site doesn't help things.

Thus, it's been nice chatting with you all since the beginning of MM, but after all the tech glitches that seem to be ongoing, I am signing off once and for all. It just isn't worth the aggravation! Farewell. This is AnnMarie of the five pairs of fake eyelashes and lacquered flip signing out.

Mistakes on Blu-Ray DVD?

In the commentary on the episode that included clips from The Man from UNCLE, I thought I heard Matthew Wiener say that the actor who played Ilya Kuryakin had died - that ain't right. David McCallum is alive and acting in NCIS as the medical examiner, Dr. Mallard (Ducky). I had a crush on Ilya, Russian that he was, and still carry the torch for Ducky. Live long and prosper, David McCallum.

Nevertheless, the DVD is great to watch while waiting for the next season.

Is January Jones a One Note Actress?

"Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof went after the actress for "sucking" at her role in the new X-Men movie. I have only ever seen her in Mad Men and the very tiny part she had in "Love Actually", which I can barely remember, so I can't really judge her range. I did see her abysmal performance on Saturday Night Live.....that only told me she is very bad at improv and comedy. I have sometimes wondered if she will always be a "Betty" in whatever role she plays.....the frozen blonde beauty of Alfred Hitchcock's dreams, if not every man's. While I think she is absolutely pitch perfect in her Mad Men role, I really wonder if she could ever play any other part and not be accused of "sucking" as an actress. What do you think, Maddicts?

Q&A with Mad Men creator and Cast June 1st

Hey all,
Long time no talk forum.
I got to go to a Q&A with Matt Weiner, Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, and Keirnan Shipka the other night. Here's my post about it and a little video.
