Peggy's Typewriter
I was watching Mad Men for the very first time a couple of days ago and fell in love with Peggy's typewriter! I know some of the typewriters on the show are Selectric II's but hers is different. Does anyone know what kind it is? Color? I believe the show was Season 3 Episode 2. (Peggy puts the paper in the typewriter, turns it on, then walks out of the office since her secretary was flirting with some British man).
Freddy Rumsen in " One Crazy Summer" ...whaaaa
lol- I cannot believe I did not notice this before - i have only watched OCS about a gazillion times growing up. How could I have missed that Tiny Tank Rumsen played Hoops alongside John Cusack and Demi Moore in One Crazy Summer???
Mad Men Living
It really is wonderful to read posts by like-minded individuals who enjoy the AMC production of Mad Men. Mad Men has certainly created a unique sub-culture in our society, as each of us appreciate the different elements of this award-winning show.
However, one glaring omission that I note is that none (or those who have shared their musings on this blog, anyway) have been inspired to display appreciation of the design elements of the show in their daily living. The classical lines and simplicity of the architecture has certainly inspired me and my fiancé to create our very own Mad Men townhouse. As a somewhat new homeowner, in a relationship with another "Maddict" (as they call us), we are constantly drawn to the same elements of design created in Mad Men. Commenting often, "look at this Mad Men sofa," "check out this Mad Men dining set." We don't just look, we buy; so now our townhouse is beginning to resemble a production set, right down to the drinking glasses! Coincidentally, BEFORE Mad Men ever aired I owned the platinum rimmed glasses that grace the DVD/Blu Ray cover of Season 3. We affectionately call them our "Mad Men" glasses.
And on a somewhat bizarre final note, our youngest cat Cicero has a striking resemblance to Pete Campbell (sorry Vincent, but it's true!) even his fur coloring changing to resemble a beard that Vincent grew in the recent off-season. Cicero's personality really shines through in Pete, especially when he and Trudy dance the Charleston. We call Cicero, our own "little Petey Campbell." With our other cat Caesar (big black Maine Coon) being more of a suave Don Draper type.
Like everyone else reading this blog I anxiously await the premier of Season 4, and am "madly" watching all Seasons prior to this so I have all the comings and goings straight when I tune in later this year.
A big thank you to the cast and crew for creating such a marvelous production. The only reason we subscribed to cable television. I mean, do you really need another reason?
Where can I buy a print of Dream of the Fisherman's Wife?
I have been hunting for a while and cannot find it. I figure someone here in the Mad Men forums must know since it is a prominent piece of art featured in the show. It's the woodblock print by Hokusai that features the octopus and woman in coitus that is hanging in Cooper's office. Any help to find a print of this would be appreciated.
Mad Men nod on Community
So as many people might know, Alison Brie is hilarious on Community. A few episodes back (I'm catching up) there's a hilarious bit when another character does his take on Don Draper. Alison's reaction is, of course, classic.

Season 3 / Episode 9 / Music??
Can anyone out there tell me what the song playing over the end credits of the above episode is? I would be eternally grateful as it's driving me MAD!!!
Vote for January Jones & Christina Hendricks!
Both of them are apparently competing in the "Tournament of Broads" at blog.howtomeetbroads.com.
Season 3 DVD out next week. What I'm looking for:
Hey gang, is anyone aware season 3 is out on Tuesday, instead of way into the summer like it usually is? I'm psyched for it, especially the commentaries. Maybe we can fire up some good topics with new info rather than sifting through complaints.
I'll tell you what I'm looking for in the commentaries. First is what was probably one of my favorite intriguing little things ever here, the maypole dance. Some thought Don's eye being drawn by her seemingly freedom, some thought it was lustful, sexual. But what got me was (what I thought anyway after re-watching) a deeper layer of the visual.
If you look closely when you see a distant shot of the maypole you have the central axis with the streamers bending down from top to the children surrounding it, the streamers are an implied canopy. And you have an inner group which travels around in one direction, and an outer group which travels around in the opposite direction. So visually, what I saw anyway, what you have is a carousel.
So I'm curious most if they say anything regarding that, I'm dying to know if I'm right.
Another visual I loved was Betty with the couch. To me, I thought they were purposely setting her as a Renaissance painting, like we all have seen before. Lying in repose, wanting to be watched by us, the viewer. A little ego, a little attention-needing, basking in her own beauty. I'm curious if that visual of her was on purpose as well, the similarity to those paintings.
I also always thought the times Don showed up at Suzanne's door, it was shot a little reminiscent of that one visual of Don showing up at Anna's door with the Mountain King in the background. They were so similar to me anyway so I'm curious if there's anything to it.
One last thing which is ultimately irrelevant, but I'm still curious about is Peggy's roommate Carol Erickson, as in (I had thought) McCann-Erickson. The whole time I thought something regarding some corporate skullduggery was going to come to fruition but never did. It would have fit too because the Brits obviously were after SC and got them, then dumped them, so I thought some corporate espionage was on the horizon with the roommate. So I want to see if they address why they did that. Apparently it's nothing though.
Anyway, I'm glad they're out next week instead of waiting until summer. I like finding out some inside info and seeing what we were right and wrong about, and being able to look a little more into it now than we usually do.
carbon paper
Enjoyed Season I very much. Worked as a secretary in an advertising firm in 1960. We used carbon paper to make copies. Letters needed two copies, therefore 2 sheets of carbon paper were used between regular sheets. When a mistake was made it was difficult to correct. When typing script, five copies were needed - therefore 5 pieces of carbon paper were used between 6 sheets of paper. A real pain when trying to correct mistakes in typing.

Trudy
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I must have watched Season 3 reruns close to a hundred times hoping to find some clue that I might have missed that will indicate where season 4 will bring. In the Season Finale, I couldn't help but admire Trudy's loyalty/support to Pete. She really does stand out among the women in the Madcast. Although she's lead a fairly charmed life before her marriage to Pete, it hasn't really detracted from her character and strong family values. She's the polar opposite of Betty because no matter what Pete does wrong, she will not leave him. Pete certainly doesn't deserve this type of love from anyone. I really believe that if Trudy wasn't in his life, Pete would be an even more horrible man than the one we've seen. Maybe she's changing him? What do you think?
"The 100 Greatest Advertisements"
I'm surprised Julian Lewis Watkins' classic book hasn't made an appearance--it would be a great period detail. Watkin's book was revised in 1959, and I remember at least one heavy hitter saying in 1958's "Madison Avenue USA" that he always reached for his copy when he found himself coming up short on ideas. It's not hard to imagine "Somewhere West of Laramie" coming from the fertile imagination of the young Bert Cooper!
THERE IS SOMETHING NEW ABOUT THIS SITE...
Many thanks to whomever worked on this site. It seems to remember me when I "sign in"...that's a great improvement.
Something else...if you do make a post, wait a while then go back to where you posted, then click on your "refresh" button and your post should appear.
(Maybe you all knew that already, so please excuse the preaching to the choir.) But this site seems to be running much smoother. Thanks again!
HAPPY 39TH BIRTHDAY TO JONATHAN DANIEL HAMM!!!!
Just wanted to wish a hearty happy birthday to our own Don Draper.....the Big 4-0 next year....and more gorgeous with each passing year, IMO.

Betty!
Get off that plane with your new Daddy and learn to love your desperate man in a free, spontaneous, generous way. My princess Mom did it in the early 60's, and so can you!
Question for producers: Sal
Why did Sal leave the show? I loved him!
Mad Men Merchandise
I am just curious....do you all think that there would be any interest in Mad Men themed merchandise, Not just a logo stuck on a cup or shirt but martini sets, portable travel bar, retro aprons, old fashioned coffee cups and saucers featuring " the girls" etc?
Jon Hamm
How wonderful to have a man that looks like a grown-up! I'm only 26 but I miss the days of Burt Lancaster and Robert Mitchum! Real, masculine, mature men. George Clooney was all alone before Jon Hamm came along. How wonderful they are!
Help needed
I'm putting together a very tongue in cheek guide how to be a mad man, each week I'll update with serious faced guides on every aspect of becoming a mad man...I know it's kindda sad, but me and my fellow MM addict thought it would be cool and funny, I need suggestions for articles, or if you want to contribute, contact me: http://howtobeamadman.blogspot.com/
It's all not to be taken too serious..
Mad Men
When does Season 4 begin? Any info on what will be happening?
Gorgeous orange-dot paper cups
Where can I find those gorgeous orange-dot-patterned paper cups they use around the Sterling Cooper office? I'm told it's an old dixie-cup design with the D & C constituting the dot-shape (I guess it would have to be CD to make a dot). My google searches have proved fruitless.
thx.
Which bands do you think will be featured in season 4?
Firstly, I have to say that the musical selections for the first three seasons have been commendable; I don't consider myself to be a big fan of music from the 1960s, but the creators of the show have done an excellent job showcasing both popular and obscure cuts from that decade, which have almost always worked very well within the context of the particular episode that they were in.
With that said, what do you think we're going to be hearing this summer during season 4? I'm going to guess that it begins in 1965. Since there were some early proto-punk bands forming around this time, I've included some on my list. I do hope the creators of the show opt to put some louder stuff this season, in order to reflect the musical changes happening around the mid-60s. Anyhow, my list of predictions:
The Sonics - "Keep a Knockin'" (1964)
The Knickerbockers - "Lies" (1965)
The Yardbirds - "I Wish You Would" (1965)
The Beatles - "Mr. Moonlight" (1964)
The Who - "The Kids Are Alright" (1965)
The Rolling Stones - "Play with Fire" (1965)
The Byrds - "We'll Meet Again" (1965)
The Beach Boys - "In the Back of My Mind" (1965)
The Kinks - "Till the End of the Day" (1965)
The Animals - "Around and Around" (1965)
