I would too, MadMenSuze...I just googled it and seems there's some debate as to whether the "baby boom" ~~ that was 9 months after the blackout ~~ was a myth or not....always heard there was a big baby boom in Aug. '65, anyone know for sure?

Is that what that movie "Where Were You When The Lights Went Out" (1968) was based on? I just googled that and it has Doris Day and our dear Bert (Robert Morse) in it. I love both Doris Day and Robert Morse but somehow have missed that one, anyone know if it's any good?

Yes, the 1968 film did take place during the famous blackout. Miss Day plays an actress starring on Broadway in a comedy entitled, "The Constant Virgin". The film received mixed reviews but it was MGM's 2nd biggest moneymaking film during the summer season of 1968. In addition, it broke records during it's run at Radio City Music Hall in NYC where it opened in August, 1968. During it's first week it took in almost $ 280,000 which was, at the time, the largest one week gross for any picture in any one theatre at any time in history, according to Variety. Miss Day and Mr. Morse have a very funny scene at her Connecticut home that had the packed house at the Music Hall howling. I saw the film during it's first week and enjoyed it. Not in the same class as some of Miss Day's films but very amusing and with a great cast including Patrick O'Neal, Terry Thomas, Pat Paulsen, Steve Allen, Jim Backus and quite a few others. If you have no expectations of another "Pillow Talk", it'll make you laugh.

Thanks for the info, Paul Brogan, I do love Doris Day movies and Robert Morse, too, as I said above.

Might have to put that on my list at Netflix!

I think her best movies are "Love Me or Leave Me" (with James Cagney) in which she was quite dramatic), "PillowTalk" and "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" and she was good also in many others, including "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (with Jimmy Stewart)....if one doesn't mind hearing "Que Sera Sera" numerous times.

Welcome to the forum (if you're new)

A thriving urban legend arose in the wake of the Northeast Blackout of 1965, in which it is told that a peak in the birthrate of the blackout areas was observed nine months after the incident. The origin of the myth is a series of three articles published in August 1966 in the New York Times, in which interviewed doctors told that they had noticed an increased number of births. JLT Dubai
