Mad Men or Women?
I am late to the martini party. I just finished watching season 3. This is a damn good show. I have not seen anything of this caliber for a long time.
Not that it really matters because I am still going to watch it. But are most audiences for this show, men or women? I guess there is only one way to find out.
Hello, I am Anton. I am a men and watch Mad Men. What say you?

Oops, I mean "I am a man" not "men" but I could be representing many men. Where is the edit button? Wow this forum is just like mad men... from the 1960s. I like it. :P
woman - and you've got it right anton_sugar - these boards could use a makeover!
Hello Anton, welcome aboard. I am new to MM also. I rented Seasons 1 & 2 from NetFlix. Season 1 is ON Demand on cable. I would advise you to watch the 1st 2 seasons to get the full MM effect. Its a wonderful show-only one I watch regularly.
Kathy
woman here....and a rabid Maddict since July 2007, when I happened to catch the very first episode of Mad Men and have been Mad Men obsessed ever since.
...Oh, a hearty welcome to our new Maddicts!
Yes, our forum is a bit "vintage" I agree, but it has a certain charm ~~ if one is not averse to a few bugs and bumps along the way! Keeps us tough I suppose, as we most definitely need to be to make it through the off-season each year!
lol?
haha so true j9mac....you inspired me to make a MM quiz question for the day - Who said this? "Now try not to get overwhelmed with all of this technology but the men who designed it made is simple enough for woman to use."
a) Joan Harris
b) Peggy Olson
c) Don Drapper
d) This forum designer
There might be two right answers here... any who...now that I have offended the owner of this forum and will get blocked pretty shortly... I would just like to say... 3 girls 1 guy that likes this show?! Wow. Normally, I like those odds but I hope I am not the only guy here. And thanks for the welcome.Kathy and SCfan!
Mad Woman here- Welcome Anton and Kathy! Now that you guys are hooked on this amazing show, please stick around. Would love to hear your thoughts and input. I started watching it during the first season and am utterly hooked on this show. August 2010 can't come soon enough for me. Just got finished watching the first two seasons for the third or fourth time!! I always catch something I missed from previous viewings!
Anton, you are not the only man that watches this show. There are others. My husband loves it as much as I do. (Or maybe not AS much as I, but he loves it!!)
Again, welcome!! Glad you have joined us!!
Take care.
So far the females have it.
Thanks jeffe64. 485 are you m or f?
What is the opposite of a sausage party?
Yes, I can't wait to watch 1st and 2nd season. I just got season 1. But this will certainly NOT last me until August 2010. Did I hear you right jeffe64? (WO)MAN, I am going to go MAD!
I think my favorite scene so far is when Don was drinking in his car in a nice glass and when he was done, he tossed it out the window. Classic. I will try that later.
Hello Anton and other new posters...Welcome!!
Hi to my fellow Maddicts, also!
Anton, you are so correct about this site. Just had a problem signing in...had to sign out, then in again.
When will I ever learn??!!!
Anyway, what I wanted to say is I am a Women Maddict and have been watching since Season One.
I'd suggest you check out Amazon for good prices on Seasons One and Two and to pre-order Season Three.
Just be careful where you toss that glass...;)
In the MM Pilot "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" Joan leads Peggy to her new desk outside Don Draper's door. Removing the dust cover of an IBM Selectric typewriter, Joan makes her classic statment to reassure Peggy.
As a side note, at the time Joan Holloway might well have not yet met Greg Harris, MD. Joan was having an affair with Roger Sterling, which was still on-going when Roger had his heart attack.
Matt Weiner has already admitted when they shot the pilot on location in NYC it was not possible to rent enough period correct carriage typewriters that matched. Besides, it would be costly to deal with the noise of older typewriters. The advanced technology Selectric is not even from late 1960. It is much later vintage. The patronizing remark makes little sense. Joan knew Peggy had just graduated from the top secretarial school. IBM electric typewriters were a fixture in offices going back to the late 1940's. From the typist's standpoint there is hardly any operational difference between a Selectric and an IBM Executive which would most likely be used by Don's secretary.
Drink&Smoke, where are ya, guy?
The men need another member to chime in!
There may be more men on here than you might think, I would venture to guess, including our dear Dr. Adams, directly above.....
Also, there's DoubleDon.....and hobocode, who I THINK is a man....but, if not, my apologies....
@anton_sugar: What is the opposite of a sausage party?
A clambake!
Sorry, poor taste, I couldn't help myself.
Oh season 4 when for art thou? Always far too long a wait.
LOL Ms. Mod. Interesting: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=clambake
I will not recite the other definitions but I think you are right.... Learn something new everyday...
Looks like this IS a clambake.
Oh right, woman
Adios, I'll be back when Season 4 begins and the crude bores have moved on.
Well, I guess we said "welcome" too soon....such a shame....
See you later 485madison. Best of luck. We go back a long time so I will miss you....remember that time when you said "So far the females have it" good times good times.
It's okay SCfan I am still here. I probably would be more if this thing was more interactive. Nothing like typing a message submitting and checking.. hmmm... did it submit, what happened? refresh, refresh, falls asleep zzzzzzzzzzz.
@485Madison--Before I comment on the show, I am intrigued by your user name. Here's why: as a MadMen fan, I noticed something pretty amazinh (to me, anyway). Sterling and Cooper (et al) reminds me SOOOO much of an actual ad agency which functioned during the timeline portrayed by MadMen. My uncle had a "small-but-large" agency for years, throughout the 1960s and 70s which was housed at the very address alluded to by your screen name. I won't mention the full name here, but are you possibly a former denizen of the old "C & D" ad agency, formerly at 485 Madison Ave.?
Drink&Smoke here to represent the MM male gender viewers. I enjoy watching the SC office scenes. JMO, but whoever writes Roger's lines, deserves a raise. Cheers.
Hi Drink-Glad to see you here.
I just posted on the other thread about Quotes for Season 3 that Roger definitely has the best lines. His character and the delivery of his lines help too!
Hi everyone, thanks for the nice welcome. Its good to know there is a forum to go to. Hope MM wins Gloden Globe Sunday night and of course Jon Hamm also. Its the best show on television. Just hard to wait for the new season.
Kathy
Nice, another guy that watches the show. Thanks Drink.
Mad Woman here.
I have been watching since the first episode premiered and have pulled in many new fans with my excitement about the show. I read about it in a fashion magazine and all that it staed was that AMC was to launch a show that set in the 1960's and the clothes and furniture were 100% authentic. That pulled me in and thank god that it delivered on the very first night! I love the show and my husband and I do not miss an episode. I'm hosting a premiere party this summer for #4!!! So excited!
I will need some help around that time from you guys- or mostly gals, I should say- because we are only serving food and drinks mentioned on the previous seasons.
I may have entered the room when all the guests have left, but I am impressed with the callibre of contributors to this post....nice to know that fellow mm addicts have a great sense of humor not to mention taste. I logged onto this site purely to find out how much craptv I have to put up with before I get my fix from S4...august you say, August! Good god. Oh well, there is plenty of time for some desperate speculation then:) I am a Woman by the way and I cant say my husband feels the same way as I do about the show...we started watching it together and I left him for dead after the 3rd episode of S1. It is like a great novel...full of well paced intricate detail
Mad woman here. Most people I know IRL who watch it are women, but online where I've written about it and discussed it, it seems fairly equally split between men and women.
Mad Woman for sure! This show has intrigued me from the very first one I saw. I am a child of the sixties and this show is a perfect fix for those of us who revere our past. Moon children love to revisit the past and I fit right into that mode. I didn't get to see any of the series until last year, so I will enjoy now going back and seeing the first two seasons. I am definitely hooked!!!
I love this show. I am an addict of this show and I'm going mad if I missed an episode.

I think that the most beautiful woman in all over the world is Jenna Haze! She is really sexy and clever person and I have heard many great responses about her. I think that Jenna is the ideal of woman. But it is only a my own opinion and I am so glad that I can express it here. Thanks a lot!
